RPI @ Princeton, Friday, 2/4/22

Leppanen must be pissed. At the end of the first PP in the third he came off the bench and skated hard toward his position at right wing. #14 on Princeton was coming up ice (which was behind and to the left of Leppanen). He clearly clipped Leppanen's head, sending him spinning to the ice. To then be called for a 5 minute major on a fairly normal post whistle scrum around the crease is a double insult.

That was a tough loss. RPI was in command in the first period and could have been up 3-0. Too many penalties the rest of the way totally disrupted RPI flow and gave Princeton goals and momentum, although some of the penalties were harsh. Lack of clinical offensive play led to a couple of big chances getting missed. Need to bounce back for a big one tomorrow night.

While our PK undoubtedly needs to be better, I can't help but feel that the refs were absolutely atrocious tonight. Addamo gets called all the fucking time for the most ridiculous calls simply because he's bigger than everyone else. He could breathe on someone and get called. The Leppanen major was a total farce on a normal post scrum whistle, and as you mentioned Leppanen got hit up high earlier with no call. It felt like for every one of our penalties, there was a similar Princeton penalty that went uncalled. It's not an excuse for losing but it absolutely impacted the game

Fair points. Addamo was lazy with his stick on the first penalty, but the Princeton player conned the ref and went down holding his face as if he got hit in the head. Same thing with the Leppainen ejection: avoidable, but when the stick went up the Princeton player faked contact to the head. The refs also missed when a Princeton player clearly slew footed Shane Sellar.

The goal Princeton scored on the rebound from a Watson save on a breakaway was frustrating. RPI had a player in position to clear the rebound who should not have been beaten to the puck.
