RPI Pick-To-Click 2021-2022

Conductor emeritus
Sorry I missed the first weekend, here's a little copy-paste...

As always, this contest is open to anyone who wants to play, not just the RPI faithful. It can take as few as 15 seconds to make your picks each week so why not play!

In general, you will pick one player from each team for each RPI game. You can't pick the same player twice in a weekend, and the rules are slightly different for tournaments (I'll post those when it's actually time for a tournament).

Picks must be submitted (or finalized) by puck drop of the first game of the weekend. If a player you've chosen is injured during the course of the weekend, you may select another player if you let me know before the start of the next game. If you're not sure if you're allowed to make a change in your picks, make a new pick anyway and I'll decide whether or not you can make the change.

To keep everyone from picking the same person, the top two scoring forwards and top scoring defenseman (by hockey points, NOT PtC points) from each team will be ineligible for selection. Ties between top-scoring players will be broken by goals scored, ECAC points, ECAC goals scored, and finally seniority (hopefully we never go past that). This rule will not come into effect until a player has at least five points.

Back again is the season-long limit to the number of times you can pick each position. We all tend to rely pretty heavily on forwards (and some of us on goaltenders), but I'd like us to try to more closely match the proportions of players on the ice (i.e., 3 forwards, 2 defensemen, 1 goalie). Of the 72 picks you make this regular season, you may select no more than 50, 30, and 10 players at forward, defenseman, and goaltender, respectively. I'll keep a running count for each contestant and post it along with the scores each week.

Point Breakdown:
Forwards
Goal - 2 pts
Assist - 1 pt

Defensemen
Goal - 3 pts
Assist - 2 pts

Goaltenders
Quality Start - 2 pts (If you don't remember what that is, look here. Threshold is now a save percentage of 0.9141)
Shutout - 3 pts (Only to be awarded when the goalie plays the full game)
Goal - 10 pts
Assist - 4 pts

Note: For all players, SHOOTOUT GOALS DO NOT COUNT.

The designation for whether a player is at forward or defenseman will be determined on a game-to-game basis according to the box score at collegehockeynews.com (RIP CHS).

The participant who earns the most points in a week will earn themselves a bonus point.

Good luck and good picking!

Okay, here we go! We begin the picking season with a home pair against Coach Smith's old stomping grounds of Canisius, who themselves are fresh off a weekend split in Happy Valley. Let's hope RPI can shake off the remaining cobwebs and come out with a big pair of wins to get the ball rolling into the league schedule.

Picks must be in by 7:00 ET on Friday, October 15.

There are no ineligible players for this weekend.

Two questions.

1. You said a total of 64 picks. We have a 38-game schedule since the 4 games in Fairbanks are exempt, and two games have already been played. That means there are 36 left or a total of 72 picks, doesn't it?

2. What about my picks for last weekend? I think both players whom I picked were on the scorecard.

Ah beans I forgot we had a long schedule this year. I just subtracted 4 from 68 because we'd missed a weekend, but yes obviously we will make 72 picks.

Yes, by hitting and also being the one person to make bonus picks, you will start the season proper with a 1-0 lead.

Friday vs Canisius
Canisius: Randy Hernandez
RPI: Kyle Hallbauer

Saturday vs Canisius
Canisius: Lee Lapid
RPI: Ture Linden

And will this raise 50-30-10 proportionally?

Welcome back, Lugnut and thanks for doing this again…

Friday:
RPI- T.J. Walsh
Can Nisius?- J.D. Pogue

Saturday:
RPI- Simon Kjellberg
Cannot- Keaton Mastrodonato

Friday
RPI ENGINEERS: SIMON KJELLBERG
Golden Goofens: Keaton Mastrodonato

Saturday
RPI ENGINEERS: TURE LINDEN
Cantisius: Randy Hernandez

Man I haven't had to think up silly names for other teams in ages, pardon me as I shake off the rust.

Congratulations to me on my first rigged win of the season and for taking over first overall from Ralph (who held a 1-0-0-0 lead by virtue of his "preseason" bonus point).

RPI earned their first win of the season with big nights from a few people, but TJ Walsh (RPI fan 4 life) led the way with a goal and two helpers. Keaton Mastrodonato (lugnut92, Ralph Baer) is a loser but he was involved with both Canisius goals but is still a loser.
Saturday went a little bit worse for the home team, but a number of skaters were worth 2 PtC points, though only Simon Kjellberg (RPI fan 4 life) was selected. Across the ice, Randy Hernandez (Ralph Baer, lugnut92) scored two goals, including the game-winner in OT. What a jerk.

Sorry this is coming on Wednesday, but also there's only one game this weekend and it's on Saturday so you'll all be fine. RPI is heading out to Burlington for the first half of this season's disconnected home-and-home with the Catamounts.

Picks must be in by 7:00 ET on Saturday, October 23.

There are no ineligible players for this weekend.
