Re: RPI Pick to Click 2013-14: Revenge of the Nerds
Congratulations to MavHockey14! He made up for a dreadful showing just before the break by putting together a decidedly solid set of picks, winning his second weekend of the season, and moving himself into a tie for the overall lead.
Matt Neal (hawthr, RPIHFH, and rsfs04) was the most productive Engineer on the weekend, assisting on Bubela's powerplay goal against Ferris State and scoring an even-strength shot against Minnesota to tally 3 PtC points. The posters only took four different players and each of them generated at least an assist, so no one went scoreless with their RPI choices.
With the Bulldogs being held scoreless in the championship game against Colgate, it all depended on who put up the most points on Friday.
Matt Robertson (nobody) scored FSU's fourth (powerplay) and sixth (empty netter) goals and assisted on their first two tallies, so he was the proper choice. Justin Buzzeo, with his goal and assist did well for the three individuals that did choose him. Scott Czarnowczan did not fare so well, bringing four posters down with him.
The hosts actually got their most production out of
Travis Boyd (nobody), a Capitals draft choice. He scored the game-tying goal against Colgate on Friday and scored the unassisted lead-locking goal on Saturday to go with his assists on the Gophers' fifth and sixth goals, earning six PtC points. Kyle Rau, a very popular pick was worth five with 2 goals on Saturday and an assist on Boyd's goal on Friday. Fasching was with the USA U20 team and was not ready to play by Friday and did not contribute on Saturday, so his 0-point performance generated the only 0-point choice of Minnesota on the weekend.
The surprise champions of the tournament were led in PtC land by
Charlie Finn (nobody), their goalie, who got five points from his shutout over Ferris State. Their most productive skaters were
Brett Corkey (nobody) and
Darcy Murphy (MavHockey, Ralph, and RPIHFH). Corkey assisted on Gate's second and third goals on Saturday and Murphy put one in the net both nights. The Raiders proved to be the most problematic for those picking with only six generating points and nine others remaining scoreless.
RKarger fell off her spot on top of the standings and all the way down to fourth place, but she's just two points back of lugnut and MavHockey who are now co-leaders. Other than that, not a whole lot happened with just a couple ties being broken and some minor shuffling.
There are only 8-12 weeks remaining, which means that we're likely past the halfway point in the season, so keep going for those bonus points, there's definitely still time to make up some ground.
