Re: RPI Offseason Thread: Six Languages of Drivel

Even drivel needs to take a summer holiday.

With exception of the passing of R. Curadi, it's been a fairly quiet summer, which isn't a bad thing.

I seem to recall a few years ago that some posters were t'd off that posts were happening over the summer just shooting the breeze. I guess they got their wish.

I am still waiting for Viktor Liljegren to appear in the directory.

Re: RPI Offseason Thread: Six Languages of Drivel

The new rule change allowing for a major penalty to be called on an interference infraction is only going to cause confusion and a lot of derision against the official.
If there is not specific criteria for the major, than you are going to see crowds at games getting on the officials for a judgment call. This already happens too often, but a major called against the home team because of the officials judgment will only cause more dissatisfaction with the on ice officials.
All major penalties should have specific infractions spelled out so that there is no doubt in anyone's mind that there team was not jobbed.

....just to clarify, the “interference” here is referring to a flagrant hit NOT your typical 2min. penalty for interference. I agree with you ehf, providing another "judgement call" for the zebras is never a good option. Spell out the rule....send it to the officials.....send it to the Teams.....coaches, teach your players. Here’s the rule BTW; Major penalty for interference: To assist officials in properly penalizing significant contact – particularly blindside hits – that is not to the head or neck area, the panel approved the addition of a major penalty for interference.... http://www.ncaa.com/news/icehockey-...o-replay-criteria-approved-mens-womens-hockey

I feel like the bull**** interference against us (Cornell player backs into Brutlag, receives 9.6/10 from the judges) in our overtime Whiteout loss against Cornell a few years ago would have been called a major by Feola/Kotyra. Not that it matters, Cornell scored within the two minutes anyway.

You mean similar to the BS major on Lee at the Colgate away game? The league tried to do everything in its power to ensure we were not successful that year.

Re: RPI Offseason Thread: Six Languages of Drivel

News item on USCHO reports that former North Dakota Coach Bob May passed away last Sunday at the age of 87.

The significance to RPI is that he was the winning coach in the only NCAA championship game played in Troy. His Sioux beat Michigan State, 4-3 in overtime, at the Field House in 1959.
