Re: RPI Offseason Thread: Six Languages of Drivel

The other day, training camp opened for ECAC Men's and Women's Hockey officials at the Houston Field House on the RPI campus in Troy, NY. We welcomed aboard some 10 new candidates (we're always looking for more).... http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=62165&blogger_id=196

Rumor has it our very own AspyDad was present at this training session. No not trying out to become a ref but sitting in his normal seat in Section 9 yelling at the incoming crop of refs.

Way to go, Aspy! Make the most of training camp! ;) It's going to be a better year, so let's be in mid-season from right from the start.

Re: RPI Offseason Thread: Six Languages of Drivel

We used to, when we used Ticketmaster.

Not using Ticketmaster anymore shouldn't mean that RPI shouldn't be able to have some way of offering online ticketing for their games. If anything, it makes RPI look worse for failing to keep up with the 21st century way of selling tickets to events.

Re: RPI Offseason Thread: Six Languages of Drivel

I had heard (from either Norris or Sachi) in the 2010-11 season when all of those renovations were happening that they were looking for new banners because the old ones didn't fit the new aesthetic. That was, of course, 3-4 years ago, so who knows what's going on there. I do particularly enjoy the banners they have at Yale, with the schools' seals and colors on each banner.

One would think that, despite not fitting the new aesthetic, they would leave the banners in place until new ones could be obtained, out of respect to the other teams in the league.

One would think.

Who'd want to pay $23 thru TicketBastard for a $12 ticket at the window?

Doesn't have to be Ticketmaster for online sales. I don't have the spreadsheet in front of me, but RPI is one of four or five schools in Division I hockey that doesn't sell tickets online. The other 54-55 schools have online ticketing in one form or another. Take the school up Route 7, for example: they're apparently using UniversityTickets for tickets to their games, with a whopping $0.00 convenience charge per ticket.

From the Poly's recent article on this year's Hockey Line:

Seth Appert said:
[The ECAC has] the best student athletes, [has] the kind of kids that have the grades you need to go to these schools, [has become] the best league in college hockey. Except for Clarkson … They’re certainly not near us in engineering, their graduates are just lucky to get jobs.

Perhaps the banners were sent to the dry cleaners and someone lost the redemption ticket?

seriously, for a moment: how do the mechanics work? does each member school produce 12 of its own banners and then trade one each with each of the other 11 schools?

Heck, it was only about five years ago that they started to use scanners.

No, otherwise they wouldn't all look the same. I wouldn't be surprised if there were some league dollars associated with it.
