RPI Offseason Part II: Mindless Drivel.

Re: RPI Offseason Part II: Mindless Drivel.

The problem with the PWR is that unless you're going to eliminate the criteria of games against "good" teams, there's always going to be a cliff of some kind, because a team's either good or their not, there's not really a good way for there to be a gray area.

They could, of course, just use KRACH.

Although "good" can be defined in a way that either a team is good or not, one can say that some good teams a better than others, and some bad teams are better than other, and weight accordingly. KRACH, of course, does that automatically.

Not RPI related, but what the heck its June and I have no intention of going down the PWR road AGAIN. :D

Canucks made it official yesterday-- Utica will be the new of home of Vancouver's AHL team (Peoria Rivermen). NHL alum and area native Robert Esche is part of investor group that made it happen. NY has already doled out $2.25mil in taxpayer funded upgrades to the War Memorial, now referred to by its PC name, the "Aud". I went to a few jammed Utica Devils games as a kid --and what a raucous joint it was. I hope they do well --I plan on attending some games -- the town could use a win. The addition may cause some division juggling for the league. Maybe they'll bring back the NY Div. ? :D

They might have trouble competing with Div III Utica College which plays in that building and routinely draws more than 3,000 per game.

I think its the other way around - Comets will benefit from UC's popularity. I've seen UC play at the Aud -- I think the strength of UC attendance ( highest ave. attendance in DIII ) helped Utica land the Comets. Not to mention the presence of the Comets along with the $5mil in upgrades (locker & weight rooms, video scoreboard, etc.) will help UC recruiting

What is the criteria for getting a ring? I can't imagine why he would be eligible for a Stanley Cup ring.

Up to the team. I believe to get your name on the cup has a set criteria. I think 50% of games played or appearing in the post season but not sure.

...IIRC, there are 3 ways to get your name on the Cup; Play at least 1 Game in the S.C.Playoffs.....Play @ least 28 Reg. Seas. games (in a full scheduled season)....Or, because of some grievous reason a player is unable to play @ least 28 games an appeal can be made to the Commish's Office. Acually, 1 Game in Finals or 41 Reg. Seas. Games......http://proicehockey.about.com/od/stanleycupbunker/f/stanley_cup_nam.htm

If Hossa can't go next game, with the way the B's are shutting down the hawks, he might get to qualify for the 1st category. Of course, it may not matter. Not counting out the Hawks yet but the B's are starting to make them look like the Pens.

Re: RPI Offseason Part II: Mindless Drivel.

Being it will be only a week away in a few hours and I have forgotten to mention it in some previous years, the halfway point of the offseason will be on Wednesday 6/26/13 at 8:04:30 PM. This was obtained from the end of last season being on 3/17/13 at 9:09 PM, and the first game of the upcoming season starts on 10/5/13 at 7 PM. (If the schedule shows it as 7:05 then it will be 2 1/2 minutes later.) Note that both the end of last season and the start of next season are EDT, so there is no need for a 30 minute adjustment if one is in EST and the other EDT.

I suspect we'll see Hossa tonite, lest he risk being labeled along with other Chicago injury "Nancies" namely - Cutler and Rose. That said, if he doesn't go - I suspect we'll see Ben Smith again. Quenneville seems to like/trust him.

Good work RB - this time next week we'll be running down hill!
