Re: RPI Offseason Part II: Mindless Drivel.

I am going to attempt golf at this outing. is there anyone who is brave enough to want to play with me? If not, I'll go sit at the kiddie table...:o
B: I'm on it --I may be able to arrange a "sponsorship" for you as an honored guest/ringer in our foursome. We're easy to spot -- we have the only golf carts equipped with seatbelts and air bags...by the 6th hole, I will likely be resigned to enjoying a cigar and keeping everyone's bevie "fresh".

Re: RPI Offseason Part II: Mindless Drivel.

Now if we can only get some of the defensemen to learn how to loft a puck down ice the same way they'd loft a nine-iron to the green....

One of Chicago's most effective plays is to loft a puck down ice and have their forwards race after it. It does wonders to disrupt the trap.

If we already have Bombay and now Conway, why not add in Dwayne Robertson. "Alley oop, boys!" :D

If you're willing to put up with me that'd be awesome...but, alas, the NCAA prohibits me from accepting anything for free so I'll pay my own way and hack everyone off who plays behind us...I'll need to know who's with us so I can turn my form in to Seeker (you can email me that info...):)

...it's funny, I thought for the first couple of years that they were calling Kevin, "Beaker" (from Sesame St.) http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...ce4UbmoJZa44AO-t4CICw&ved=0CDQQ9QEwAg&dur=512

We are very aware of that rule and we know that you absolutely adhere to the regulations. But, I suspect you may be good at whatever you try and might be just sandbagging a bit here. I would bet that your hand eye coordination is pretty darn sharp.

This is based upon 5 October 2013 for the start of next season.

No, Doc...I kid you not...I took golf lessons in 1987 (haven't touched a club since...) so don't expect much out of me. I'm more interested in the 19th hole:cool:

I just hope I don't send a ball through some 'muck-de-muck's' car window...oh hell, ****** 'em if they can't take a joke!

Understood. As you know we are charter members of the 19th hole club. I was going to save this until we see you but have to give you advance warning. Jen has discovered that Van Gogh now makes a Vanilla Vodka to die for. Not that she has given up on the Dutch Caramel, but she is adding to her list of favorites.

That about equals my golf prowess -- given my two creaky knees --and the fact that I don't even know where my golf clubs are !!! Haaa... My plan is to play our "ringers" shot on every hole....barring a miracle shot or two on my part.

Re: RPI Offseason Part II: Mindless Drivel.

If it keeps raining like it has the past few weeks, maybe they can turn the fairways into a giant slip and slide. :)

Re: RPI Offseason Part II: Mindless Drivel.

According to a news article posted today (6/13) by uscho's Todd Milewski...

The NCAA Division I men's ice hockey committee would like to turn down the volatility in the PairWise Rankings based on the so-called teams under consideration cliff. Now it just needs to figure out how to do it.

Here's a question for our RPI posters to review/turn inside out... :D

Do you think the level of tuc cliff volatility is significant enough to warrant a change in the formula or weighting? Sixteen out of 59 teams (slightly more than 25%) make the tournament. With a sample size as small as this, some volatility will result with the shifting of even a few game outcomes a weekend. Is some level of volatility desirable, adding to the excitement of the last few weeks of the regular season and conference tournaments?

What would concern you more, that there is too much volatilty week in/week out? Or, at season's end, you discover that an opponent's win/loss in a late October/early November non-conference game sealed your tournament berth fate?

If the NCAA & college hockey power brokers want to tinker with the formulas/weightings, do any of our posters have some statistical advice to offer?

Let's face it, the NCAA types could make what they think is a small change and really mess things up,right ?

The PWR is always going to be volatile, especially at the 16/59 point which is not really that far away from the midpoint of what should be approximately a bell-shaped curve. Be that as it may. one is adding a significant amount of volatility by having a Cliff. It would be much less so if the RUC factor was incorporated smoothly and this would be trivial to do since it is all done a computer anyway. Having it there and increasing the excitement near the season's end is an interesting point, but it is probably only people who follow things very closely who realize that.

I add that this topic has been discussed ad nauseum on many other threads, but why not again. :)

Re: RPI Offseason Part II: Mindless Drivel.

Not RPI related, but what the heck its June and I have no intention of going down the PWR road AGAIN. :D

Canucks made it official yesterday-- Utica will be the new of home of Vancouver's AHL team (Peoria Rivermen). NHL alum and area native Robert Esche is part of investor group that made it happen. NY has already doled out $2.25mil in taxpayer funded upgrades to the War Memorial, now referred to by its PC name, the "Aud". I went to a few jammed Utica Devils games as a kid --and what a raucous joint it was. I hope they do well --I plan on attending some games -- the town could use a win. The addition may cause some division juggling for the league. Maybe they'll bring back the NY Div. ? :D
