Re: RPI Offseason Part II: Mindless Drivel.

Clinton administration again?

Lewis has served in the House since 1987, so he was in office during the Clinton administration.

He's also been in office during the Obama administration, both Bush administrations, and part of the Reagan administration. Why single out the Clinton administration?

There seems to be a pattern with Dr. Jackson's choices for commencement speaker. It was very evident in the four years I was there.

Re: RPI Offseason Part II: Mindless Drivel.

Today is 22 May 2013. There are 136 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 5 October 2013 for the start of next season.

Regardless of what you think about Rep. Lewis' or Shirley's politics, he was a societal pioneer and is a worthy selection for commencement speaker. I'd pay to hear him talk about his experiences as a Freedom Rider and crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge.

I don't even know who Rep. Lewis is.

Re: RPI Offseason Part II: Mindless Drivel.

So, I had a revelation... perhaps Brock Higgs for captain next year?

I think he's considered the obvious choice by those of us not in the know right now. After his 'candid' assessment of the team towards the end of the 2011-2012 season slump, it's a safe assumption.

But those of us here have no idea what goes on behind closed doors (see Justin Smith).

In my youth, I had great admiration for John Lewis and Julian Bond. 1968 was filed with tumult... imagine the 70's with Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy. (Whether you're conservative or liberal, it seems to me we've been at our best as a nation when bright, passionate gifted people can help shape public discussion. Good things come from the clash of ideas.)

If you have the chance to hear John Lewis speak at commencement, go!

Season ticket holders, watch your mailboxes. I haven't gotten anything in the mail yet myself, but it looks like the 2013-2014 season ticket brochure is up on the RPI Athletics website here: http://www.rpiathletics.com/documents/2013/5/21/13-14_Season_Ticket_Brochure.pdf

Of note: no discount for sending in your order form early this year. They're also introducing an "Engineers VIP Season Ticket Package" at $500, which includes:
premium seating (cushioned seats), tickets for TU Center game and ECAC Hockey Playoff series, parking
pass, Engineers Pride access, and a seat runner (to take coats, go to concessions for you, etc.)

Prices are $255 for the general public, $175 for children ages 3-12 and RPI alumni who graduated 3 or fewer years ago, and $213 for faculty, staff, and alumni. Does not look to be an increase in price from last year's price if you ordered after June 15th. Only increase is the "Engineers Pride" membership which is up to $135 from $90 last year (or $120 if you bought a membership without a season ticket package).

Schedule also changed. What's up with the Black Tuesday? Although I do appreciate we don't have to put up with the robots to the south and slightly west of me for the event...

Re: RPI Offseason Part II: Mindless Drivel.

Right. And we would be playing Harvard at home on February 10 - likely right in the middle of the beanpot.

It was originally January 25th. Our away series with Harvard and Dartmouth is November 1st and 2nd. The only team affected by the Beanpot this year is Quinnipiac, who was supposed to play Harvard on February 1st (but won't because of the Beanpot game on the 3rd). February 7th and 8th is an "open weekend" for that travel partnership to make room for the Beanpot game on February 10th; they'll be using the Friday to complete the home/home.

Re: RPI Offseason Part II: Mindless Drivel.

One theory I have is that the original schedule for the TUC game is in the middle of the black week that the NCAA sets to be a break in the season (hockey has two season halves; you're only allowed 26 weeks of practice/games). Therefore, they had to move it. I'd have to assume that neither RPI nor Union had a common weekend to put the game, so they had to cut a deal with another travel partner to make room, and that just happened to be Harvard/Dartmouth.
