[mindless drivel]
Let's see, 8/26/74 was the day I started to work which was a Monday. So, 8/9/74 was a Friday like this year.
[/mindless drivel}

If you spent 10 years in Troy your working life started well before then.

Re: RPI Offseason Part II: Mindless Drivel.

Today is 13 August 2013. There are 53 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 5 October 2013 for the start of next season.

Re: RPI Offseason Part II: Mindless Drivel.

Any reports from the golf tourney?

Golf was had.

Good to see the players back. Great day weather-wise, great golf course in nice shape, however.......6+ hours to play 18 holes. Number of golfers should be limited.

Perhaps we could have directed some of them towards Union, who had to cancel theirs for lack of interest.

Great day, great weather...and I beat Seth on the pin challenge. :p Enjoyed meeting the freshman who all seem like good kids . I had a great chat with Riley Bourbonnais -- who is very personable and seemed genuinely excited. and I kidded DeVito about his "sandpaper" image. I didn't get to see Bokenfohr drive the ball, but Hampton and Miller can both absolutely hammer it. Zalewski's "Billy Madison" drive (at our urging) was memorable and long !! :D

Yes, the pace was slow, but the good news is that this is a very popular event. You don't limit the number of golfers, you add another flight (AM & PM)...grow the family, don't limit it.

EDIT: Kirk MacDonald attended, but was not among the coaches...so I'm not sure if the VAC rumor has any legs. It'd be fun if it does though.

graeme townshend was at the knick in troy last month and stopped in at the knick for some stick & puck. Standing next to him taking slapshots from the blueline i just wanted to drop my stick & skate away. I've shot with murley, cavosie, stephen gionta & others there but he was tops.....and he's what, 44,45?
47 :d

...asked Kirk about the VAC, said he's still undecided.

I'm assuming that you meant "Happy Gilmore" drive, as a Billy Madison drive would have required him to go all the way back to kindergarten.

Two flights...AM and PM.....and 1 dinner. What will the first flight golfers do while the second flight is golfing??? Let's face it, the numbers permitted has to do with making more $$$$ for the program, and I get that. However, you run the risk of losing golfers with an extremely SLOW pace.

There are tournaments that do two flights and make out just fine. You could also go to a club with 27 holes and take the entire course. I agree that it would be unfortunate if they limited the golfers. Seth said he wanted to add to the "RPI Hockey Family." Dino Macaluso did a nice job maximizing revenue during the live auction and he kept kidding Appert about the number of golfers in the field, so I'm confident that next year will be different.

If its me and I play the AM flight, I go back to work slam out a couple hundred emails, then come back for the dinner..but that's just me. In fact, you could argue that two flights might allow some peeps who couldn't commit to the entire day to play the AM flight.

Its not a pro-am ...plenty of competitive tourneys to be had if that's what your after. (The "par is your friend" instructions by Seth was your cue about that.) I had a blast shooting the breeze with the players and other attendees...and if you were worried about your game, there were plenty of opportunities to hit a 2nd drive or a wedge shot.

I witnessed the epic beat down on the 4th hole....WS won the pin challenge and it made him a better player for the rest of the tourney. I have to thank the WS and his crew for putting up with me....I think I was the sole source of the backup on the links....but I can drink beer REALLY well! :D
