RPI @ Mercyhurst, Friday, 11/22/2013

Re: RPI @ Mercyhurst, Friday, 11/22/2013

End of the first period RPI leads 2-1. Seemed at times that this period was taking forever. Nice to grab the lead on the road but a long way to go.

As a side note, it does not surprise me that AHA decided to observe media timeouts. One possible catalyst for this decision: RIT televises ALL of their home games. Perhaps a team complained about an unfair advantage there, and so media timeouts are universal across the league. That would explain why their scores come in late to CHS, though.

Would seem that is something that should be standardized. With hockey being a game of inches and seconds-there is just so much that can give a team an advantage.

Hate it. Media timeouts wreck sports. Give the advantage to the weak and unfit.

I believe that was something that was "practiced" prior to RPI's appearance in the tournament in 2011: 90 second breaks. I don't really have much of an opinion either way because both teams have to play with whatever is chosen for that game, but it does seem to benefit teams that are not as well conditioned, especially in up-tempo games.

Easy explanation: We take Yale's game and shove it down their throats. And thank you, Ed, for proving a point I've been trying to make about RPI vs. Union. All SA had to say was, "It's only 4 points, and there's no rivalry", and he wouldn't have had anger directed at him from me.

It also benefits teams that have one immensely powerful line. They can get them that extra few rest periods and have them skate more shifts. An evenly balanced team with 4 fairly equal lines does not get that advantage. Especially at home when you get last change.
