RPI III: Revenge of the Seth

Re: RPI III: Revenge of the Seth

A real nice article about JD'A on the Maple Leafs' website: http://mapleleafs.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=512341. I was going to quote parts of it, but just about all of it is worth quoting. :)

Great article, but you have to wonder how long they will let him stay at RPI.
Obviously they did not know what they drafted. Now they are going to have to decide how to bring out his potential. I hope we can get at least two more years out of him.
Two things that have not been mentioned on this thread about last nights game.
1. Jerry was named one of the top three players for the Americans. Picking up a little jewelry for the honor.
2. He made the defensive play of the game with under ten seconds left, when he gave up his body to stop a last second scoring chance.

He did it all in this tournament, and against and with many first round draft choices, he stood out.
Congratulations to Jerry D'Amigo. One championship down, two to go.
Then you can join the Leafs. :)

Re: RPI III: Revenge of the Seth

I've checked a number of websites, but have not been able to locate a boxscore for last night's game.

Anyone know where one can be found?

Re: RPI III: Revenge of the Seth

At any rate, I like Cullen and Polacek working together.
But Seth has been playing Helfrich, Polacek, Lee as the top line the past 2 games, right?
I think Cullen would look great on Malchuk's line to get some scoring out of their great work on the boards and make it more of a threat

Helfrich/Polacek/Lee
D'Amigo/Pirri/O'Grady
AAG/Kerins/Halpern
Cullen/Malchuk/Rabbani or Smith(is Smith injured right now?)
Looks like four pretty balanced lines to me!

Malchuk is great as a grinder who's perfect to center a checking line, but if you add Cullen he can function well in the attacking zone too. I like his versatility. Like you said, they can do great work on the boards and be a scoring threat as well.

Smith is available, but he's pretty interchangable with Rabbani, Halpern, Vassel, and apparently Watts in the lineup.

That's definitely a good lineup, although I might switch Jerry and AAG for this weekend at least. That creates three top scoring lines that makes the other coach crazy as far as deciding who to stop (which slows down their offense as they try to focus on D), plus a grind line that can do things to score as well. I like having quality guys like Smith and Watts (who I thought did a great job at GLI) available in the pipeline if they're needed.

Really odd looking at that possible lineup and see Helfrich/Polacek/Lee and find it potentially overlookable. That's a bang-up group right there.

Re: RPI III: Revenge of the Seth

Conceivably, Watts would play over Halpern, especially if the reason that we didn't see Watts for a long time before last week was an injury.

///Obviously they did not know what they drafted...
This should surprise exactly no one - at least not anyone who has followed the Leafs' incredible front office ineptitude over the past 20+ years. I will trust Jerry's talent and superior work ethic to take him to the next level, not the Leafs' system...what there is of it.

Everyone else also passed on him for over 5 rounds.
