RPI Hockey 2019 - 2020: Nordic Combined

Me too. My only question is what happens if there is a tie and you bet on RPI (or the other team)? Do you get your bet back or are both bets losers?

Depends on the bookie and what you can bet on. If they offer a draw for a bet (like they do in soccer), then you lose a moneyline bet for a specific team on a draw. If there's no draw offered (like they do in football), then it's a push.

Heard from a source that Dubinsky is, in fact, injured. He'll be out a few weeks. Not sure what the injury is

For the RPI football fans - the game against Grove City starts in about 12 minutes and there is live video available. I just looked over the line ups and if nothing else, this is by far the biggest team we have faced in a lon g time with 8 boys over 300 pounds in the line up and several of them at 6'8" or 6'7". This Pennsylvania team seems to be able to score a ton against almost anyone in their league so we could have our hands full.

Yes it is. Scrubs? Impact Players? Odd you see TWO go into the portal during the season. Realize down year for Union, but wondering what the RPI fanbase take is on the neighbor down the road.

According to the Daily Gazette article, it was both players' decision to leave. From what I saw of Union this year, and what some Union fan friends have reported, Breault was having a tough season. He's not a big physical presence to begin with and he looked overmatched.

Do you know if Lacka is injured too?

I asked a few people and nobody knew. Did Shane Bear pick up an injury against Princeton?

The kids are playing hard, but Harvard was a step quicker and has better offensive players. Unfortunately, the RPI power play is really struggling (hasn't scored since the SLU game), and the team still takes too many cheap penalties. That is a combination that makes it hard to win games against good teams.

RPI showed great fortitude in coming back after 2 early goals. But at the end of the day Harvard did what it had to do to win the game. Lots of mistakes on both sides. Harvard capitalized on their chances. RPI did not. When 40 shots isn’t enough, it tells you something. Give credit to Harvard. They skate well, pass extremely well, and are very well coached. This is a team that has played half as many games as RPI. Despite the loss it was a very entertaining game. They are getting better. Big win tonight will help.

Credit the boys Harvard wanted it to be easy last night and they refused to let it be easy. Harvard's defense was abysmal but when they had to they stepped on the gas. I expect Harvard to be able to attract top recruits but the talent gap last night was both startling and worrisome. We should be more evenly matched tonight.

Any word on injuries, perhaps Lacka and Bear?

Great to escape with a W. I hope there was a good reason they couldn't have scheduled for tomorrow afternoon maybe even 1 PM.

Nice to get a win, but this was the third time in the last four games that we handed the opposition the puck in the slot at a pivotal time in the game for an easy goal.
This has to be dealt with.

The boys went from Troy to Buffalo after the game. They didn’t get in until 3am. Not much sleep. Canisius didn’t play Friday night. It was an ugly win but they found a way to do it.

Bear was a healthy scratch for 2 games. Dubinsky is hurt and I wouldn’t expect him back until 2nd semester.

Power play which was struggling got 2 last night which was good. Team needs to learn how to win in adversity and imo they did that last night.

Just guessing, but Canisius probably has enough trouble attracting fans to their games without going head-to-head against a Bills home game.

After receiving about 10 tweets from various sources, I figured that this was worth posting. RPI grad and Tri-City broadcaster (including WRPI) Ed Dague passed away.

If you ever attended a Freakout! simulcast, Ed was always there in his red sweater volunteering his time to host it.

Good point. RPI gave a lot to schedule the game the way they did especially when Canisius not having a game on Friday. I will go to the Lowell and maybe the Merrimack games.

Re: RPI Hockey 2019 - 2020: Nordic Combined

Very early line on the weekend's upcoming games is that we are a 3-2 underdog Friday and a predicted 3-3 tie for Saturday. But we are only a 21% predicted winner fro Friday and 43% for Saturday so far. i suspect some significant weight is put on the advantage of being a home team (and richly deserved if only for the ability to make the last change for match ups of lines) but I am not so sure that the weighting is always justified. No question some teams who draw well at home or for other reasons deserve a bit extra in the odds but when a team plays in a virtually vacant barn I wonder?? In any case i hope to be around to start the scores thread as i am finally on a winning streak (although it took until late in the third period for me to get there):).

They clearly don't do their research if we are underdogs against Merrimack. They're absolutely garbage just like Canisius
