RPI Hockey 2016 - 2017 (Part II): In Memory of Ed Weaver

As of now 47 have voted and 42% have voted "Shut Up". It looks like 20. :)

I went with 'no', hoping for at least a .500 record over the last six, but then again I'm near the bottom of the pack in the ECAC pick'em so my wishful thinking sounds a little hollow. Fingers crossed for a good finish nonetheless.

The six games that WaP mentioned are four regular season games and at least two playoff games. If we split the remaining four regular season games, then we would have to make Lake Placid to have any chance to not have at least 4 losses in total.

Still could happen. :) What's that saying 'don't wait for the storm to pass, learn to dance in the rain'. We're going to Lake Placid.

We have to go undefeated and untied in the regular season (or win some playoff games) to get to 10 wins. The last time we failed that was 81-82.

Let's give it a good run. '81-'82 was just a few years prior to ...

For one, we started to award athletic scholarships.

I had the honor of covering that 81-82 team for the Poly. It was a rough season but the first scholarship athletes were freshman and a great class was on the way. I remember being in the lobby of the team hotel on Huntington Avenue in Boston and the staff was signing a recruit. It was John Carter.

I didn't know that he was on that show.

Yep, the first half of season 1. Announced as having played hockey for RPI and UML. I think they did a contestant search around Boston for that half-season, as a lot of the contenders were from that area.

Re: RPI Hockey 2016 - 2017 (Part II): In Memory of Ed Weaver

Just a couple of years later, we put together what might be the two best seasons in RPI history. I was not there, so tell me what changed?

Scholarships started (I think) in 81-82. That team was beset by injuries to arguably 2 most important players, and had a lot of youth. You could postulate that 81-82 was a good foundation for the senior leadership in 84-85. However, it was a year similar to this one in terms of frustration and missed expectations. I wouldn't correlate to the future too much, that season was an up and coming coach's third year, where the current coach has had innumerable recruiting classes to make his mark.

was there any mention here of Dartmouth's classy recognition of Ed Weaver's passing? It fits in this thread, if not.
