I know you had a news spot last year, but it'd be cool if you were able to plug the charity game on the weekly radio show... even if you "supposedly don't like" one of the hosts... ;)

Re: RPI Hockey 2015 - 2016:: Six Flags Over the HFH

Take the two wins, last few years that's a weekend we would of split
Never argue with success-even though the 2 wins had our PWR number fall a bit. Also, nice to have a weekend where we did not seem to accumulate any more injuries and in which neither game became much of a nail biter.

Wouldn't say our PWR number fell so much as others' number gained. RVD's absolutely correct; we would have split in past years, or even been swept.

Actually, KRACH is back to #16 but RPI Rating is #18 and 50pts (#21) in the useless Rankings. Still too early for any of it to matter......but I’ld rather be here ATT than where I thought we would be.

With only three games left in non-conference play (against a KRACH-average Miami team and those jerks from Schenectady one last time) and a bare minimum of 16 games of ECAC cannibalization to come, I can't see us getting into the dance without winning the ECAC tournament. Without taking the Whitelaw, we stand a very good chance of being bumped by the AHC or WCHA champs.

That's a pretty glass half empty take.

Looking at PWR, we play #1 and #7 twice each and we play 6, 11 and 12 once each. And then there are the actual playoffs. Seems to me there are many paths ahead without having to win the ECAC tournament. Our record is good enough that a top 3 finish in the ECAC and a decent tournament showing should do the trick.

That's always the best strategy, right?

It is, and I'll accept that. We do play all of those great teams, and we've obviously shown that we can hang in there with the best of them. I really want to be optimistic, and I am seeing something in this team I haven't seen for a few years (namely, outstanding goaltending and a semi-competent offense), but we've had so much trouble with the Quinnipiacs of the world the last few years that I think a 10-7 finish for the regular season (i.e., everything breaks along KRACH lines) would be entirely unsurprising (and who can be upset with a 20-win season?). I really hope I'm wrong and we can break 30 points and take the bye and actually go to Lake Placid and know that regardless of the outcome there that we'll have a date set in Albany. I just don't know how realistic that is.

For sure, but when you run the numbers, even one victory in Alaska would have made a great difference. We needed to hold just one of those leads.

Especially the Nanooks game. UAA is having a nice little season for themselves, but Fairbanks has been baaaad.

EDIT: Actually, at least for now, it seems that either win would bump us to 15th in the PWR. Winning both would have us at 9th. *sigh*

And had we learned the lesson of how to play with a lead late in a game, or perhaps gotten a little better shake from the officials, we most likely would have won at least one and perhaps tied the other. Interesting how often in a season we can look back to one game, one period, one play or even one penalty that can have such a profound effect on our national standing.

I think that’s what coaches all try to get through to their teams. One game, one period, maybe even one play could have huge ramifications on a season. Maybe it’s a lesson some never learn till years later. Like the man said, "it’s a shame youth is wasted on the young”.

Re: RPI Hockey 2015 - 2016:: Six Flags Over the HFH

It may not be hockey related, but Andrew Franks just kicked an extra point for Miami. ESPN mentioned that he is from RPI, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.
Nice to get a plug in on national TV. :)

Update: Just before Franks kicked a FG, Jon Gruden asked Mike Tirico where Franks was from again. Tirico said RPI, a great engineering school in Troy, NY and their nickname is the engineers.

Two national TV plugs in one night. Think the last time that happened was in 1985. :)
