RPI Hockey 2014-2015 Part II: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015 Part II: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

It's nice to see you children all getting along for a change. :)

I saw that some of you were asking about returning alumni. I don't have a list of everyone who was introduced during the second intermission of Saturday's game, but here are the names of those who skated in the Alumni Game. There were quite a few more announced during the game including, of course, John Carter.

Charlene, thanks for this, I appreciate it!!

Not much hockey talk sigh

So, you'd like some hockey talk?

All right.

Much has been made this season of the fact that RPI's offense has not been as productive as all of us might have hoped. The team has scored only 42 goals in 18 league games.

I note that the two teams RPI is scheduled to play this weekend have scored even fewer. Colgate's scored 41 and Cornell 38.

These are teams whose offenses can be held in check. RPI did that, and quite effectively, five weeks ago.

If the guy once commonly referred to as Our Great Coach can manage to get the players to do that again, this coming weekend could be considerably more enjoyable than the last four.

[redacted the long list]

It's amazing what can happen when people keep an open mind, eh? ;)

I enjoyed as much of the alumni game as we saw. Sadly, FlagDUDETTE was a little under the weather and we had a prior engagement, so we couldn't stay for the whole thing. I was expecting the typical two team alumni game, not the four team tournament that happened this year! Although my history may not go as far back as some, it was nice to see some of my faves out there.

I don't think we can entirely judge on league goals, as Brown has only had 33 this season, yet wiped the floor with us by a combined 10-5.

Also, we're not going to be able to count on Cornell and Colgate only practicing for Union and taking advantage of a trap game, like what happened last time. I hear Finn may be coming back, though, so we might be able to get a goal from behind our own blue line. :p:D Just so long as we don't get the penalty situation we had in that game.

Good points.
Hope springs eternal. And from your lips to the hockey gods' ears.

This team has had the "excuse" of being undermanned (14 forwards on the roster) and injury depleted much of the season. It seems that almost everyone is back in the lineup, so it is time to get it together and make a run to a home-ice berth. The defense and goaltending improved the last 45 minutes of the Yale game and the forwards applied some good pressure. That has to continue on a regular basis for the next 6, or 8 or maybe even 10 games. This is pretty much a lost season, but the stretch run could be important for building confidence in Kasdorf and the young players in front of him. It was assumed by most that this was not going to be a great year and next season was supposed to be the year this team would make some noise in the ECAC. Let’s hope that is the case.

I try to stay as optimistic as I can, as long as I can.

A local newspaper carries a comic strip called “Frazz.” Two of the principal characters in the strip are Frazz, the custodian at an elementary school, and Caulfield, one of the pupils at the school.

In a recent strip, Caulfield is standing next to a gentleman all bundled up in a heavy overcoat and hat, with a muffler almost completely covering his face. Caulfield says, “Hi, Mr. Spaetzle. Sure has been cold lately, hasn’t it?” To which Mr. Spaetzle replies, “At least the mosquitoes shouldn’t bother us today.”

After Mr. Spaetzle leaves, Frazz says to Caulfield, “I think he just dropped the ABDO on you.” Caulfield says, “The ABDO? What’s that?”

Frazz says, “The Atom Bomb of Desperate Optimism.”

If our guys go out and get hammered this weekend by the teams they stifled so effectively last month, next week you may see me posting about mosquitoes. :D

Isn't that three principal characters? ;)

Plus, desperate optimism would be, "We've only won two playoff series and they've both been on the road."

So, how many goals are we going to give up in the second period?

The pessimist says, "the glass is half empty."
The optimist says, "the glass is half full."
The Engineer says, "the glass is twice as big as it needs to be." ;)

hmm....I thought this was going to go in a different direction than it seems to be going.

So it goes.

uh, oh, a Slaughterhouse Five reference too. hmm...

With a freshman goalie starting he better be good next year

And this team seems to say "It doesn't matter, because we're gonna spill it anyway."

And the coach says the glass would have been more full if they just poured the liquid in his way.

Anyone choosing to travel through my area to get ot this weekend's games, good luck... weather is REALLY fun.

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015 Part II: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

Are you saying that Kasdorf won't be back?

If he leaves, that's his prerogative. If he stays, he'll have some stiff competition for ice time vs. Alec Dillon. If Kasdorf can scoop up the #1 job as a frosh, Dillon can do it just as easily.

The RPI faithful are definitely "frazzled." Another Caulfield, who disdained phonies, might have made a better coach.
