Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

I and Jen may not be her for tonight's game. Odd as it may seem, Hamish's girlfriend cat, she has stuck to him like velcro for the past almost 15 years, is going downhill rapidly also. She has been treated for 3 years for hyperthyroidism, but had done fabulously until the illness that struck Hamish. it is almost as if she has lost all desire to live as she must be feeling his absence. Today might be her day but we still have some hope she can rally a bit. With the loss two days ago, we are down to six but over the years have had as many as 11 here at any one time. We have all the ashes of the ones we lose and the ones that came from the same litters are put together in their own larger urns. When I can stay unemotional enough I will one day list all the names we have used. Some, of course are non RPI hockey, some are NY Ranger hockey, and some are just names that seemed to fit their unique little personalities.
In any case, we hope the boys can put it all together tonight as they will have to, and beat a good Colgate team. DrD

Sorry to hear about your loss, but you must take exceptional care of these animals to have them live such long lives.

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

DrD,

Just out of curiosity which other names have you and Jen used?

There have been so many that we rescued-we have kept over 40 over the years but are down to 6 now with one critical(but just came back from the Vet who feels she has virtually no chance but would be best kept at home with us in familiar surroundings where she is in no way suffering. I would imagine though it is hour to hour and if we feel we have to, we will run out at any hour to do what is necessary.

Here is the list of the last 20-I can tell you that Jen says over 10 were named for RPI hockey players, most by first name, some by last name and even one for a female player. There are about and equal number named for whatever Jenn comes up with.

Connor
Alex (actually Alexander the Great)
Blair
Colin
Carson
Jake
Andrei
Kirby
Pierre
Francois
Jacques
Xavier
Tiberius
Jezebel
Corey
Jackson
Max(Maxmillian)
Sebastian
Lady Basset
Sirius
Gabrielle

Naming the females was toughest as very few of the hockey names fit quite right. Feel free as you can to figure out which were named for players and even for whom. Jen liked the more unusual names so none of the cats got Bob or John. If I recall we did have an Allain with very quick paws (a real face off man kind of cat) but that was some time ago. Of them all, Hamish was our favorite RPI hockey name since Ralph already put it together-he was extremely cunning.

If we take any more in(doubtful at this stage) we have a few names from this year's team that are in consideration as Jen loves Milos, Drew, Viktor Riley Travis and Parker. She likes Travis even more after meeting him at the Princeton game.

Thanks EHF-unlike many people we have known, the only time these animals have hurt us in any way, is when they leave us. It is just so tough, but then we think of what kind of life they would have had without us and the alternatives for them were just not acceptable.

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

DrDemento-

Harvard fan but my sympathy of the loss of you cat. I am currently the live in servant for two cats. Names are Sir Thomas Hobbs and Wombat. Named by my son. Back when he owned two pygmy goats they were Antigone and Ismene. That's what you get when your kid double majors in philosophy and ancient Greek. I suppose if he had majored in maths he would have named one i>u

Sorry for your loss, DrDemento.

On another note, gotta love the Union fans claiming we're obsessed with them, and now one of their keyboard tough guys has YouTube videos in his sig about how RPI sucks. Because we all know that anecdotes are data, and YouTube is a great way to get your point across and not look completely uninformed.

Perhaps one should practice what he/she preaches. Who gives a **** what another school's idiots do?

You have done quite a bit of trolling in their thread in the past. Don't take things so seriously; I was just pointing out the irony to lighten things up a bit around here. Sigh.

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

Okay, so, back to hockey... let's hope that the victory against Princeton may have kindled a bit of a fire under RPI's butts last weekend, and they come out flying. At least we have some of our missing players back -- it's not an assured solution, but it sure helps to have most or all of the pieces in place. We need every single ECAC point we can get.

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

guesses:

Connor
Alex (actually Alexander the Great) Could have been a lot I suspect
Blair JENNESS (Not that he was memorable)
Colin INGHAM
Carson BUTTERWICK
Jake Could be a lot of guys, of course, but probably not
Andrei URYADOV
Kirby ROWE
Pierre LANGEVIN
Francois SENEZ (CADORET?)
Jacques DE ST PHALLE
Xavier MAJIC
Tiberius
Jezebel
Corey I don't recall a Corey, we had Cory Bilodeau
Jackson DECLOE
Max(Maxmillian)
Sebastian
Lady Basset
Sirius
Gabrielle I think that we had a woman player named Gabrielle, but I don't recall her last name I would have expected Cindy to be the one you would have used.

Doc: So Sorry for your loss. Its such a difficult thing to go through....Hopefully the guys can get on a roll starting tonight, and make things a bit easier for you.
We are 5 and 6, with 11 games left. Like to see us go at least a game or two above .500 which should get us home ice. I really with a full healthy team we can have some success. The talent is there.

Part of me wants to see us go on the road in the first round, because we haven't won a home playoff series since 2003-04. Another part of me wants us to play CCT if we make it to the quarterfinals, for reasons I have mentioned previously.

You got most-Jen changed the Cory spelling as she preferred the Corey spelling. Most of the other names were Roman, Tudor English, or Egyptian Pharaohs as she is the history buff in the family. Cindy would have been a great choice but we wanted to reserve it for a tall blonde with a wicked temper(I suggest you ask Steve Calley about that;)). We have had about 20 others but of the above group on 13 were RPI related. Senez was the Francois and Luthi was the Jake. Alex i am not sure but as you mention there have been several. She usually likes to give them unique monikers that seem to fit their personalities.

I see you named a few after some Union players, too. ;)

After getting an up close view at Princeton-the talent is most definitely there. But having talent, and meshing that talent into a cohesive and organized team are just two different things. i am not sure how to explain what we saw, but at times we were just in a perfect rhythm and overwhelming moving up ice at will. Other times we were just a disorganized mess that allowed Princeton just easy movement up ice and into our zone and allowed them to set up in positions where they could easily deflect and tip pucks around the net. If we play like the first group, we can be incredibly tough to beat. If we play the second way, we will not beat anyone. Truly a Jekyll and Hyde experience out there. Watching on RPI TV or listening ot WRPI just cannot give that entire picture. We go from being totally in a rhythm to totally out of sync and it can happen at any time in any period under any circumstance(full strength, power play, short handed).

My daughter had named the last two. We inherited Sirius and Gabrielle under the worst circumstance possible. They are all we have to remember her and you can trust they will be treated like royalty.

Union? Do they have a hockey team also??

I'm sure they'll be well cared for. Union does not have a hockey team.
