RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! About 7"-8" of snow in the winter wonderland that is Rensselaer County!

I wonder if the NBC Sports network will eventually stumble onto Thanksgiving NHL or NCAA games as a entertainment alternative, a potentially great tv afternoon. I mean, if people watched the Detroit Lions for generations on Thanksgiving, why not hockey? CATV's about niches, right?

I caught the very end of the game on werpi. I had the same thought hearing the comments on how we adapted to playing on the big sheet. (For this weekend, Yost Field House (1923!!!) does not have a big sheet? Wonder what Red Berenson would have really liked, all things considered?)

Red must have really liked the HFH (or the RPI FH as it was years ago, judging by his scoring exploits in the December 1961 Holiday tourney. :)

The list of former NCAA players who achieved great success as scorers at the NHL level is a fairly short list: Adam Oates, Bret Hull, Joe Niewendyk, Dave Taylor... As good as Red Berenson was, he played in a different era with fewer teams... but for about 5-6-7 years, he was quite good indeed. I wonder if he'd like a big sheet at Michigan?

WOW !!!! A guy who has no idea of the inner workings of the program and has a fundamental misunderstanding of the current college hockey landscape commenting on a post of a guy who doesn't know which end is up. This can sometimes be a special place !!! HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL BE SAFE !!!!!!!!!

This dude really p$%#ed you off to bring you out of retirement!!!

My feeling, after 25 years that span the Powers/Fridgen/Appert years, is that the commitment to national-contender-quality hockey at the HIGHEST ADMINISTRATIVE LEVELS is NOT present. Instead, in a parity-soaked atmosphere where 1 player CAN make a difference, RPI fans get ticket price increases, multi-million dollar mansions for the president,"marketing" representatives and other lip service while the ESSENCE of the game, great players, go elsewhere (see: Josh Jooris). I wish that they would "get back there", but as I said, I don't see RPI even keeping up with what the others are doing. Appert becomes, at most, the third most important person in improving the "program".

When it comes to prices and whatnot, that isn't even controlled by the administration. Men's hockey is part of the Student Union budget. The only things the administration controls, in terms of money, are salaries and scholarships. Also, if HFH is still considered an auxiliary service (at least it was when I was there), you must also consider those costs. As for the administration, it's certainly questionable in terms of HFH (although it's nice to see the east end goal is no longer "that poor net", as Kurt put it), but even the investment into the training room has to give you some idea that they're investing in athletics in general.

Going back to something is the absolute worst idea possible. We cannot travel back, only go forward.

I saw a picture from earlier today looking uphill from Burdett Ave to the HFH. There is snow in Troy! ;)

Snow shoveling, like all exercise, must be done in moderation. ;)

Go, Red, get the split tomorrow.

We now must go 4-0-1 to get to .500 in NC play.

Needless to say, we aren't getting to the tournament, unless we happen to get to and face in the quarterfinals a team that has had a knack for breaking the losing streaks of other teams. I don't want to name specifics, but let's just say they still suck. ;)

Pretty telling when even the die hard fans can't think of anything to say after another shutout and another stinker of a performance. Let's hope they can get healthy and figure out how to bounce back against a good Yale team. They need to get nanne and kasdorf back, because these upperclass forwards have have done virtually nothing this year.

What else would you say when the team is constantly embarrassed on national TV?

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

How often have we recently been on national TV?

And why do you suppose that's the case? Especially considering the EZAC joke-of-a-league can't even get television coverage for their championship weekend, not that it'd matter because we couldn't even get there with biased reffing anyway.

You are being quite inconsistent today. Either we are on national TV a lot or we are not. You can't argue both ways.

IMO Saturday's loss was embarrassing but BTN2GO isn't national TV. Friday's loss was hard to take, but IMO it wasn't what I would call embarrassing. We skated with Michigan, perhaps even outplayed them for most of the game.

Hopefully his doctor works on Sunday. Obviously needs a medication adjustment. His post have blamed national TV coverage, the team, the refs and the EZAC (haven't they won the last two NC's) and that just for breakfast!

Not only that, but he never answered Ralph's question as to how often RPI's been on national TV. Between he and hrbrendan, the erosion of this thread has now become apparent.

Two national championships? Let's see, one of the teams had a player that played professionally over one offseason (hence the * in their USCHO Forum moniker), and another that received practically zero accountability for assaulting a student athlete.

Not much. Why? We consistently embarrass ourselves there, so it's not worth it to show us. Plus, as said before, it's not like this joke of a league would be able to get TV anyway.

Please, let's stop feeding the troll.
Saturday night was apparently another no-show performance. This program has had way too many of those the past few years. They need to get healthy and decide to show up each night.

Our neighbors, 10 miles west, apparently also suffered from that yesterday. (I didn't see/hear the game so all I am going on is the score.) It's not their first either, e.g., their game in Troy. Granted we have had more than our share of stinkers, but it isn't unique to us.

Re getting healthy: I agree.

I don't think that Saturday was a no show performance. They came out and played very well for the first ten minutes.
Now lets think about the previous four days. Game in Hartford on Tuesday night. Bus trip to Troy. Get up Wednesday and bus trip to Buffalo where I heard there were some festivities planned. Thursday, back on a bus to Ann Arbor. Friday game in which they played well enough to win. Saturday night another game after a heartbreaking loss Friday.
The team just ran out of gas. Just writing that itinerary got me tired.
