RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

My own opinion is that JL needs some sort of finisher on the ice with him(something we only have had a few times) to pose some sort of threat to the defense. There has to be that threat to open up the ice a bit and move those big bad defensemen off him. He needs a Haggerty or Polacek shooter out there and normally he is not paired with that type of player (except on the power play and even then he had played the point at times instead of being up front). I am not disagreeing, just sticking to my guns that it is the job of the coaches to find the right match, mix , chemistry and come up with schemes to take advantage of what each fellow brings to the table. Rarely do we get guys with the entire package-it would be nice to have a year with a Tapper, Murley, Cavosie line on the ice but we have just not had that kind of mix in a long time.
I know it is so early in the season(but we say that every year) but we just come out fast in the first period, then teams adjust quickly to us, and we just demonstrate so much offensive confusion. We have better than good goaltending, the makings of a really solid defense, and from what i have seen so far, just an ineffective offense(that has enough talent to be much better). Each year i keep telling myself-we have enough talent for better results.

I thought we recruited him because he could finish. I believe he averaged a goal a game his last juniors season. No one wants to finish. Why? Do they get skated for taking a shot from outside "the house" that doesn't go in? I can understand you don't want to just recklessly shoot, but the idea of planned offense is not an endless motion loop. Find an opening and go for it!

Each of his last two years.

How long do you think, until the patience runs out with Appert? It´s his 9th season at the helm and not much to show for it (no offense). You got rid of Dan Fridgen for much less.

If RPI gets rid of Seth Appert now, they're going to have to pay him a lot of money for not coaching the team. Appert signed a contract extension after the 2012-2013 season. I don't recall the exact terms - if anybody else does, please fill me in - but I'm pretty sure that it was for big bucks and a lot of years.

While I don't recall the terms of the contract, I do recall the circumstances under which he signed it. At the time he signed it, he was two years removed from having led the team to its first NCAA tournament berth in 16 years and had just concluded a season in which the team, after starting slowly, roared back with an 11-1 stretch drive that boosted them all the way from 12th to 2nd place in the final regular-season ECAC standings.

Appert was being viewed as one of the brightest stars in college hockey. There was a sizable body of opinion that the head coaching job at Denver was his for the asking.

There were suggestions that if RPI were to let him leave for Denver just when the team seemed to be on the verge of regaining its status as an elite program, it would be a signal that the school had decided to let the program slide back into mediocrity.

Well, they didn't let him leave. As I said, they signed him to a contract extension.

And now there are suggestions that if RPI doesn't get rid of him, it will be a signal that the school has decided to let the program slide back into mediocrity.

Amazing how much dumber the guy has gotten in the space of one season plus four games!

Three defeats to two great programs doesn't make for a lost season. Lets see how they do now that they are back home. And they better not be looking past Bentley with Union around the corner.
This is a big weekend in Troy for this team. We need to start building some confidence.

I am surprised that Hanafin is assigned to cover any of our games..

Liljegren was a late bloomer in the juniors. The opinions on him is that he has high upside potential, see how it plays out in the long term for the young man. Not sure I would compare him to Pirri more along the lines of Mike Z.

Since everyone seems so grumpy lately, I thought that the first 58 seconds of this video would help lift people's spirits.

Treating the guy like a king because he rolled a hard 8 in one out of 36 rolls.

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

OK, so we can recruit it. Why did they all leave after 1-3 years, especially considering one of the four ended up spending time in Major Junior?

You're kidding, right? Someone waves a few hundred grand in your face and a shot at your dream job, are you telling me you wouldn't take it now (knowing there's no guarantee you'll get another offer again if you turn it down)?

I think you're just looking to find any and every reason to complain.

FlagDUDE looking for reasons to complain? That'd never happen.

Good to hear a talented offensive player is assisting. The years at RPI with Cavosie, Tapper and Murley saw some of the most exciting offense since the 80's. Hope he can help with our younger players.

Gee, OGC notices a problem with the team's performance in a certain area, and brings in a new staff person skilled in that area to help solve that problem. How about that!

Queue the complaints that it has not brought immediate results in three, two, one....
