As a Badger fan here, how does she take 1st team over Kristin Campbell of Wisconsin? Did the voters watch any of the playoffs?

Was it a sympathy award for having a losing record?

Because she is twice the goalie, sees double the shots, many of which are quality chances and she has a very high save % and very respectable GAA. Campbell is a decent goaltender but she does happen to play behind the best defensive team in womens hockey. She happened to be at her best when it mattered most and hats off to her for that. It would be interesting to see how she would do on a team like the Engineers. Now should Selander be on the #1 team, debatable but she should be ahead of Campbell on any all star team selection.

Apparently quality of opponent means nothing to the prognosticators?

Re: RPI Engineers 2018-2019

I just checked how Ena Nystrom did in the tourney. Her page https://www.iihf.com/en/events/2019/wwia/goalkeepers/topgoalkeepers#player-nystrom-ena. 92.37% save percentage. 1.82 GAA. She was the only goalie to play for Norway,

https://www.iihf.com/en/events/2019/wwia/news/10131/hungarian-women-earn-historic-promotion
While Gasparics won the award as best forward, Charlotte Wittich of Austria won the vote for the best defender while Norway’s Ena Nystrom got the award as best goaltender.

Friis-Hansen's page https://www.iihf.com/en/events/2019/wwia/teams/roster/3857/denmark. 5-1-0-1-2.

Re: RPI Engineers 2018-2019

Wonder if she is related to Clarkson's Morgan Helgeson?

I wondered too. They are from different towns in MN. The name must be pretty common since Sophie also has two teammates in Roseau with the same name. She is following and/or being followed by quite a few other Helgesons, but I didn't notice Morgan. I could have missed her. I suspect that they are not related.

FWIW, the only person following her whom I noticed connected to RPI is new men's transfer Alec Calvaruso. That's a bit odd since usually at least one of the RPI coaches is following a recruit, but it might be because Helgeson doesn't use Twitter much.
Also, a year ago, NZ rated her 4.25, but she has been downgraded twice and is now 3.50.

Edit: She is now being followed and following Clarkson's Morgan Helgeson. She is being followed and following RPI recruit Aliya Jomha. She is being followed by current player Emma Hicks.

Also possible that they are more distant cousins rather than immediately related.

Re: RPI Engineers 2018-2019

This is a one hour interview, so you have to be a huge fan of RPI hockey and of Lovisa Selander to enjoy it, but I thought it was great! Pisacano does a great job as an interviewer. What I liked most about the interview is that it provided a real insight into what it is like to be a D1 athlete while pursuing a demanding academic program, and also insights into how RPI attracts top talent like Selander: as often as not it is the athlete that identifies the school as the right fit and reaches out. That was the case when my daughter chose RPI as well. But I'm not sure how RPI can make that happen more often. It will always be tough to compete with Minnesota etc in just recruiting on hockey talent alone. How do we attract more Selanders?

I missed this a couple of weeks ago.

According to Neutral Zone, Elite Prospects, and https://collegecommitments.com/CommitList.aspx?x7cq9=FEMALE she is our first 2022 recruit. She is currently 15 years old.

Elite Prospects page https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/660139/sophia-jones

This is what will appear when I next post the recruits list unless I find more info:
Code:
 6 Sophia Jones D 05/02/19 Connecticut Polar Bears 16U 2022 09/23/03 5'03" 135 Westfield, MA 3.50
 6 Williston Northampton School

Edit: Neutral Zone prep page https://www.neutralzone.net/prep-womens/player/sophia-jones-451/.
Interesting that she committed to us despite the fact that an assistant coach at Williston Northampton is Alex Tancrell-Fontaine, a former Union player and sister of former RPI men's recruit Gunnarwolfe Fontaine.

Excellent interview indeed. Although Ena Nystrom was not mentioned by name, it was interesting to learn that LS was involved in attracting her to RPI.

Thank you for the awesome review and for posting it to this forum. Selander was a phenomenal guest to have on the show and is the reason that the interview was an hour long. If you do not have time to listen to the entire show you can check out the comments below the podcast and get a timestamp for when different topics are covered throughout the interview. It may make it more enjoyable to only listen to the parts you find interesting. I will be posting a new RPI Athletics podcast about once every 2 weeks. Not every interview is with a hockey player, but they are all very entertaining, so please tune in.
