RPI@Dartmouth 2/13/16

Re: RPI@Dartmouth 2/13/16

Horrible but we deserved to lose. We played lousy hockey for three weekends and were lucky to get two wins. This team needs to do something differently . . I just don't have any answers.

Re: RPI@Dartmouth 2/13/16

Much as it hurts, you have to give credit to Dartmouth.

They deserved it. RPI didn't. :(

When we come down to the end of every season it is crunch time. As a total team, we just do not respond whether it be in the last few games or the first round of the playoffs. And it does not seem to matter who we play or what new recruits are on the team.

Re: RPI@Dartmouth 2/13/16

Hard to believe that were were winning the OT with the shots were 5-0.
And we dropped to 6th place with the loss.
We had the first few chances. the shots were all DC after we lost the last two faceoffs in our zone. We got outshot but the first few were easily steered away

Doc, you can't compare this team to the last few years. Teams of years past do not get the win last night. No way, no how. And you, and others need to remember they are fighting for a top 4 position, something not many conceived of at the beginning of the year. Keep the faith. These guys play for each other and have an all-world goalie. Don't get down

And you have to look at the reality of the situation. Nothing has changed since the beginning of the Appert era when it comes to our third period. Don't be so blinded by your cherry-coloured glasses that you can't see the truth.

This game was different. We easily won the first period.
The second and third periods we played like we never even met before. No team play, our passes were forced and more often then not they were right at someone in a white uniform. Individuals tried to force their way through the DC defense and lost the puck every time.
I havenever seen any RPI team play the type of game that we played the last two periods. I commented during the game that they were mentally tired, and that is the only excuse I can come up with. Very weird.

Blah, blah, blah..Don't be so blinded by your cherry-coloured glasses that you can't see the truth.

And you shouldn't be so blinded by your never ending pessimism that you can't see that other people actually want to enjoy the season.

Sadly I've seen this a few times... Last year vs. Bentley on Saturday, and ironically the only time I've ever been to Thompson, and that was during the 12-13 season. I understand people are going to have bad days, but that sort of lackadaisical performance would get anyone fired on a real job. I'd rather see the team put in an aggressive performance and make a mistake than just phone it in and await impending doom. And this isn't to say some people out there are being aggressive out there, but it's mostly the rotational players trying to earn regular ice time.

How about, instead of focusing on my pessimism, focus on reasons to make us be optimistic. I stick around in good times. I stick around in bad times. I look at the reality of the situation, and I see that we don't show attacking effort in the third period. And if you think I'm just making **** up, take a look at the statistics, because they don't lie. Are you going to have to defend during games? Absolutely. Should it be expected for a predictable and entire period? Absolutely not. There's only one team we've really attacked for 60 minutes in the game. And I'll give you a hint: We've played them thrice this year. Sure, things aren't always going to go our way, and that's going to happen. Put the cards on the table, show a star effort every day, and if all we can say is that we were unlucky at the end of the day, that's the most we can ask.

Re: RPI@Dartmouth 2/13/16

Without a Peer is reporting that the winning shot appeared to be deflected in off of the shaft of a defenseman's stick.

How about this: Still fighting for a home ice bye, Still fighting for an NCAA berth, a better OOC record than they've had in years as well as one of the most talented teams they've had In years. I look at the reality of the situation too, and the reality is that this team has battled through injury, early defections, they have battled back from three goals down and won. Sure, they had their fair share of leads lost in the third period, but since you like to look at "reality," the reality is there have been a lot more positives than negatives, but reading some posts from you and your ilk, you'd think they'd haven't won a game in ten years.

I really take offense to the phoning it in comment. No one on this team has stopped playing. They may not play well, and they may not be as talented as we thought that they were, but they continue to play.
No one gave up last night. They did not play a very good team game, but individually, they all tried to make something happen. Unfortunately, that is no the way team sports works.
If you want to say that they were awful that would be correct, but they did not quit.
