Using this logic, at least it worked with the power play; it's actually looked better. Even though we haven't scored, we've been generating chances.

Not sure I agree-there were a few games where we had two decent power lay units. But that was a while ago. Injuries cannot really be blamed for this at this stage. We were more cohesive and were more of a team months ago. This has happened more often than not in the past 9 years.

Re: RPI @ Clarkson, Saturday, Feb 7th

Appert says it is up to the boys if they want to play well. He doesn't even take ownership for the failures of the team. That is not a coach who leads. Instead he should be saying he isn't doing a good enough job. If this is all he has as far as answers, then he is in the wrong profession.

There is only so much a coach can do. Yes, in a youth league, they should be better at motivation. Question is, how do you keep these kids calm out there?

The power play actually looked pretty good vs. SLU.

There are also some things that a coach should not do.

Like weighted runs (or weighted skates)? Not sure if that's common at this level or higher, but if your muscles aren't conditioned for it, they can be VERY dangerous and a cause for injury.

No-there are things a coach does that can severely affect a kids confidence and his ability to make proper decision on the ice. When you are forced to second guess yourself all the time for fear of reprisal, you become afraid to play to win and instead become so much more tentative. Just watch the earlier games of these boys this year and compare the way they approach the game now.

Re: RPI @ Clarkson, Saturday, Feb 7th

I’m usually not one to complain, but this game (the last four or so actually), have been a chore to watch or listen to. Rooting for a team should be on balance a positive experience. Sure you don’t win every championship nor even every game. But you do expect to be competitive in every game. You expect to have the team prepared and to give every effort. Simply put, we’re not seeing it this year, and we haven’t seen this for a while now. I believe that we are recruiting the right players. They come to Troy with the same skills and potential that their Div I peers have. But they seem to stall, they don’t grow as players to the extent of those peers. As Doc. D. mentioned; this coaching staff does not have a plan B; either within a game or even within a season. Coupled with the poor player progression, this shows a lack of coaching acumen, in my opinion. I’ve been loyally following and rooting for this team since 1975, and will continue to do so. But it is becoming joyless, and frankly, not fun; the antithesis of what rooting for a team is supposed to be.

Could not have put it better. Amen.
