I can recall that RPI almost swept the North Country trip in 1968-69, beating Clarkson 5-4 and tying St. Lawrence, 5-5.
At the time, RPI hockey games were broadcast not only on WRPI but also on WGY, with former player Paul Midghall serving as WGY's commentator. Midghall wasn't the most polished of announcers, but he knew the game, and he bled Engineer red.
Midghall was highly critical of the officiating in the St. Lawrence game. At one point, just after a call that hadn't been to Midghall's liking, one of the officials skated close to where Midghall was sitting, and Midghall burst out with "Yeah, I'm talking about you, you little round homer!"
I thought we might have the first-ever incidence of an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty being called against a radio announcer, but the official, fortunately, refrained.
