Rpi @ bu 1/4/13

Re: Rpi @ bu 1/4/13

End of the second period with RPI leading 2-1. Another very good road period. Unfortunately taking a few penalties but still playing a good physical game. Hope these legs hold up for the third as BU gets a bit more desperate. i would suspect that they will come out fast in third.

Two of our recruits (Bourbonnais and Melanson) are playing today. Neither is on the scoreboard after 1 period in their games.

Re: Rpi @ bu 1/4/13

Any one here besides me and Ralph who remember the game at BU in 1965-1966 with Dick Greenlaw in goal for us? I believe he was credited officially with 78 saves but I am sure that the number was much higher. In addition I think I recall about 4 off the post and crossbar. We got hammered-but he actually played a phenomenal game in goal that night or else BU could have 14 or more goals (which other teams did do against us that year):(

While it's between periods, I'll respond to Dr. D's much earlier post.

I had not yet enrolled at RPI but I can remember listening to the game on WGY, which used to broadcast RPI hockey back then.

As I recall, as the final seconds ticked away, BU was still doing what they had done all night long - applying pressure in the RPI zone. A shot went into the RPI net just as the horn went off. Announcer Paul Midghall was under the impression that the goal had counted and left me with the same impression. For many years - i.e, up until I got Internet access and learned that I could find the score of every RPI game ever played on augenblick.org - I thought the final score had been 10-0. I was glad for Dick Greenlaw when I found that, after all his hard work that night, he managed to avoid the ignominy of double-digit goals against.

Glad to see the boys are giving our goalie a little bit better support tonight.

RPI women hold on for the 2-1 win over Dartmouth, their fourth straight.

W21-I have an old program from that game in Boston. I had kept score as best i could but the shots were coming fast and furious. I had estimated that Dick made closer to 90 saves since BU had 35 shots on goal in one period.

I remember back in the mid 80s that RPI had 35 shots on goal in the second period in an exhibition game against Brock. Their goalie had to be helped off the ice at the end of the period.

We did however suffer that ignominy in other games that season. :( (Clarkson and NU I recall)
