This makes how many games this year without any video or audio media coverage for us?? And we wonder why some kids may have a little reservation about committing to playing in Troy??

most of the broadcasters are on the north side of 40. One just had a grandchild born, two have been doing it for 20+ years and one is fllls-in when needed. Another one is a recent grad who isn’t really on the area anymore. We have lives and families.

Totally understand all our issues. I am sure many schools and programs have similar problems. But if we are trying to improve this program or if we are trying to compete with other programs for recruiting, we may have to do something like they do (Clarkson, Cornelll, Quinnipiac, BU, BC, etc etc etc) or we should not complain about the product we are putting on the ice. If the school does not see that some emphasis needs to be placed (financially) to promote the only Division I sport we have - then we we just have to bit?h and moan like we have for the past 2 decades. My comment and criticism was not directed at any of our people involved in trying to cover RPI hockey. For years they have had to struggle with very difficult circumstances. It is squarely directed at the administration.

understood. I came up with an idea last year where a student could receive either extra credit for a class they miss or a work study assignment in the athletic department that consists of broadcasting games. Well provide all of the training manuals, etc, and the school provides an opportunity to promote itself.

That sounds like a great suggestion.
I guess it fell on deaf ears.

Excellent -perhaps we could recover some of the money from the sale of the Shirley Shack in the Adirondacks and use that as well to provide funds. We are at a disadvantage to other programs in so many respects but getting exposure for the recruits and their play is one place we could make some inroads. The ESPN package is of course somewhat helpful but this year it just has been more obvious with so many games for both the boys and the girls not covered that some other outlets of exposure are sorely needed.

Score tied at the end of the first period, 1-1. Statistics show RPI with an advantage, though not a very decisive one.

I believe this is the first time RPI has played in Pennsylvania since November of 2013, when they split a two-game set with Mercyhurst. Coming into this season, RPI had played Mercyhurst 12 times, the most of any Pennsylvania opponent. They have also played Robert Morris once. Have never played Penn State. In the '60's and '70's, RPI used to play Penn, and way back in the first decade of the 20th century, they played Pitt and Carnegie Mellon, which I suspect was then known as Carnegie Tech.

Somewhere in Mercyhurst's trophy case, there may be something to commemorate their winning the championship of the RPI Holiday Tournament, which they did in November 2008. The tournament only continued for a couple of years after that.

The Tournament was often the highlight of our winter. Mostly held in late December, but some times in November, it was concentrated hockey. 2 days of double headers and you got to see 3 teams that you might not get a look at ever. In the earlier years the tournament was even more games on more days. Wish we could turn the clock back and start that tradition again.
