RPI @ Alaska 12/14/21

i waited as long as I could this morning before starting this thread. The team's overall percentage of wins when i do start a thread is rather poor but going back over the years much of that is attributed to my trying to start when I know the games will be difficult against the top rated teams. Alaska has shown they are a far more difficult team to play against at home than their record had indicated. We need to close out this trip well and come home with some sort of momentum. Winning the last two out there would do just that so Let's Go Red!!!!!!!!!!!!

RPI has been consistently inconsistent when playing back-to-back games against non-league opponents. They've done really well in the first of two games and not nearly so well in the second.

If they hold true to that form, tonight should be a good one for the Engineers.

Isn't that being consistent? :-)

After all my years of following RPI hockey I have found them to be very consistent - they almost always play to the level of the competition. Most games against the best teams can be nail biters. Most games against teams with poorer records can be nail biters. They are like the proverbial box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get. If they are going to get something started for the second half of the year, they need to do it now. Two in Alaska, the home for Vermont and on the road for Army - a very important stretch to get rolling!

The game was supposed to start 15 minutes ago, but LiveStats still says the game has not started yet.

Maybe they had a big snowstorm up in Fairbanks.

Marshall in goal again tonight. Does make you wonder if something's up...

And now 2-1 Alaska @ 17:33 of the 1st.

2 - 1 Alaska after 1 period of play.
Alaska leads in SoG 14-6
and just 1 penalty in the period assessed to Alaska for charging.
RPI holds a slight lead in face-offs 13-10.

We're at halftime and that does it for me folks...

Still 2-1 Alaska at the midway point
Alaska leads in SoG 35-24
Penalties are even at one-a-piece
Face-offs are also even at 16-16
Alaska about to go on their 2nd PP (5min major & Game misconduct for hitting from behind for Jakob Lee)

For some reason my post showing the GWG at 14:37 of third for the Nanooks didn’t get posted. Final 3-2. We were outshot roughly 13-3 in the final frame.

It looks like playing us has given Alaska a chance to salvage their season. No non-league game is a must win, but it will be an embarrassment to drop 3 of 4 to team that came in with 1win (albeit against a brutal schedule). It will be a test of the boys character and they’d better come out pretty pissed off tomorrow.
