RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

cupboard is bare especially for the forwards. He has 2 forwards I would say are D1 recruits. Shaw and kyrokostas. Ziliotto is borderline.
I will say we have some very good defenseman coming in. Lang has some work to do with the forward group. No question
I like our recruits on the blue line for the most part. I don't love the forwards but think you're being a bit harsh on them. Ziliotto was playing key minutes in the OHL; he's nowhere near borderline D1 level. Lariviere is solid but raw due to his size. It definitely drops off after that though, and hopefully Lang can improve that for the future years as he builds it up in his vision

Chemrouk and Dwyer, especially the former, appear to be good, but not for this fall.

I have my doubts about Shaw on the original post. He seems marginal. He did little when he was in the BCHL, although Blackfalds was not good this year.,

I guess you could say harsh? Most would say the truth. The forward group is not good. A few players are solid but overall the group is not good. It is what it is. Lang will turn that around quick. The two transfers we just picked up are going to be very good players. I like the dmen we hopefully have coming in.

I said "was" because their season is over now. I agree overall the forward recruits aren't good; I just think calling it totally bare is harsh and don't agree with the assessment of Ziliotto. He's a good player.

I think we all like the D recruits the best with Lemieux as the flagship and Adrian/Hilditch as guys with real potential that basically lost a year. Klassek I don't know how to read.

I was also happy to see that Krawchuk seemed to right his ship a little toward the end (his stats looked great when he committed then took a tumble (hurt?) before a relatively good finish) and Sanborn at least righted himself in a big way, albeit at a lower level so it's harder to assess.

Up front I do think Ziliotto may be getting sold short. As an '05 he was scoring in the BCHL at a similar pace to what Kyrkostas (an '04) did last year. He then transferred to the OHL and seemed to get regular ice time. I think if Lang were to tell us he just signed a kid from the OHL with comparable results we'd be quite happy. Shaw and Lariviere haven't really taken a significant step forward but appear to be lower level D1 recruits. I wonder if Janus and Oakenfold will even make it to Troy, but what do I know.

Edit: I do like our two portal acquisitions, but I wish the hiring process had gone a little faster to give Lang a chance to get involved earlier.

I wouldn't say it's bare. Lemieux, Kyrkostas, Krawchuk are very good. Ziliotto, Hilditch, Adrian, and Klassek are also good. I would say it lacks depth after that, particularly at forward
All true..if the staff can get them to Troy. It's a two headed monster....gotta sell/keep/land the recruits you've got on paper and find some guys in the hot tub time machine.....

Today is 16 April 2025. There are 171 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 4 October 2025 for the start of next season.

I hope you're right. I know kids were going to decommitt, hit the portal, etc. but Dave left us nothing.

Agreed. I'm holding onto my likely irrational hope that we can land Maine's keeper Berzins.....who I assume Karlis knows from Latvian world junior teams. Hopefully he and Lang can close the deal.... fingers crossed.
Too bad AIC's own goalie 6'6" Chase Clark, an NHL draft choice, is unlikely. He has only one year of eligibility since he played in 22-23 for QU and 23-24 for SHU. Thus he would not be able to get a degree from RPI.

It is suspected that Sanborn is going to be a 2026 recruit. I think that "they" don't want the two primary goalies to be in the same class if possible. He has had an excellent year for Trenton (OJHL), but Trenton has a great team which probably helps him a lot.

My thoughts too lol. I was optimistic we could get him. Gavars is committed to Minnesota State now, so not getting either of the two good Latvian players in the portal unfortunately
They were probably well on their way to their new destinations before Lang was even hired. What could Zirnis even tell them - "I'm still here and I might be staying so keep us in mind even though I can't tell you who will be HC"? In the long run it may not make much difference if we got the right guy, but the portal has definitely changed the dynamics on coaching changes. When it was harder to transfer the risk of losing players was much less and there was less incentive to rush a new hire to get access to the in motion pool. Every day matters.
