RPI 2025–26: Off the Critical List and In Recovery

No bullshit after 1 period this rpi team looks better than anything I’ve seen on the ice in 5 years. Tenacious, fast, connected with crisp passing. Most important the team plays great defense. Unbelievable what a difference.

Was anybody else actually able to listen to tonight's game on WRPI.org?

When I tried, I got a frowny face and a message "This content is blocked. Contact the site owner to fix the issue." No explanation as to how to go about contacting the site owner. :(

I listened to it.

Hockey on Friday and both football and hockey on Saturday were all listed on the broadcast schedule per the WRPI website.

Reasonable guess is that the really old transmitter they use located in North Greenbush (some four miles away from campus) went on the fritz again. The thing has proven to be problematic in the past every now and then and may be rearing its' ugly head again.

This particular transmitter tower was built in 1954 next to the studio a few months after TV station WTEN first went on the air in October of 1953 (they used a temporary transmitter located elsewhere for those months). In 1966 WTEN moved to their present location in Albany and shortly thereafter arsonists burned the original studio building to the ground. Not long after the fire the station owners donated the still standing transmitter tower to WRPI Radio.

Point of the history lesson is that the tower donated to WRPI almost six decades ago most likely has some really old components that are just going to occasionally stop working without warning.

P.S. Not all that much research needed for the history as I was one of a bunch of barely into teen year neighborhood kids who jumped on our bikes and raced there to see the fire. It was a fire for the ages that took a really long time to knock down due to multiple fire departments being very limited on account of city water lines not yet being extended to the suburbs. All they had was a group of water carrying tankers that had to take turns speeding away to wherever they went to refill!!! We actually watched a lot a it from, I think?, a safe distance.

I am pretty sure that Waite21 wanted to listen on-line, not over-the-air. That was working.

Well, you jumped the gun a bit as the 2nd half of the game went downhill, so it definitely (hopefully) wasn’t a program defining effort, but it was a good game and a building opportunity. It certainly could have gone either way. The difference was probably something Sezenack has focused on - we have very good depth but no dominant talent up front. We had nothing to match the line of Morozov, Delic and I’ve forgotten who, so we had to try and beat them with scoring by committee. That will work in many games, but there will be others where top talent just takes over.

Since Ralph said he was able to listen to WRPI, I just checked the website. I saw the same frowny face and discouraging message that I saw last night.

But I tried clicking on the button at the top of the page that says "Programs," then on a link to "How to listen," and got a message saying if I wanted to listen to the stream, I should scroll to the bottom of the site and hit play.

So I just did that, and it worked. WRPI seems to be playing bluegrass at the moment. Not a genre I can ever recall hearing on WRPI before, but they identified themselves as WRPI, Troy, so now I know what to do.

I was at the BU game. Luciano Wilson made two high level nifty passes, one backwards from behind the BU net. I believe he's going to lead RPI in assists this year, if not also in scoring.

For the football fans - RPI covered the spread of 37.5 today 57-13 and it was not even that close. In girls hockey Northeaster beat our ladies 6-1 and that also was not even that close. Both games decided early and it took a real fan to sit and watch at times.

Agree with all of this. I was at HFH last night for the first time in quite awhile. The boys had a great compete level. Team speed is much improved, the gaps weren't as pronounced as previous years. I think we'll be ok in ECAC play. #LGR

First weekend in the books. We have our starting point. In my opinion, this weekend was one of those weekends where play on the ice for the most part was good enough that we should have split the weekend, but couldn't get the job done. In addition, it felt like Miami was taking advantage on our early season mistakes leading to 9 unanswered goals by Miami over both games. As a result, both of these games felt very frustrating to me.
That being said, there is clearly a vision on the ice. Coach Lange has been consistently saying that the one thing that will set RPI apart is that he wants RPI to be the hardest working team in hockey. RPI came out strong both games, outplaying Miami by a lot in the first period. In game one, RPI outplayed Miami for about half the second, while in game 2, Miami outplayed and outhustled RPI in second. In the third period, RPI looked tired and game one, but looked motivated in game two.
All in all, it's a starting point. However, on paper, it doesn't get any easier until we play Brown and Yale on January 16 and 17. I think the big test of this coaching staff is how quickly can we work out the kinks in this team. The team definitely has something here, especially compared to the last few years. The question is how quickly can we put it together.

Early odds for next weekend and very preliminary. RPI football is a 47 point favorite over Hilbert. (Hilbert??) This is an even wider spread than they overcame yesterday against Buffalo State (37.5). Boys hockey we are 3.5 goal underdogs each to BC and Providence.

Is that one of Hilbert's 23 problems?

I may have written something similar earlier.

Took in the game live last night Miami is a pretty good hockey team my guess is there are few teams in the country that won't struggle with there 1st line that 17yr old Russian Kid is an absolute highlight reel he was worth the price of admission. We were able to keep up speed wise but they were a very very quick transition team and would get us on our heels occasionally although our back checking was A+.There are only a couple teams in the ECAC that can transition that quick. Tough to judge the goaltending because they had a couple legit weapons we lost track of our guy a couple times and he had no chance. We didn't generate a ton of offense and we did miss 2 or 3 A+++ opportunities so I belive are struggles this year will revolve around finding the net. But overall we played a pretty tidy game so as the 1st baby step in a complete rebuild I'm very encouraged...GO RED !!!

True. I think we will be fine tho. Overall I thought we showed some signs of being a good team. Gonna take some time

I agree. I really like van damme and Sobieski. Both great skaters with some puck skill. Forwards I like our 1st line and Wilson a lot. Kid has some great passing. Tapper looks bigger and faster this year.
