RPI 2025–26: Off the Critical List and In Recovery

Nice summation. As it turned out, the call they made did not work for them but as you point out so eloquently, the other options might not have worked out well either. The call came as a surprise to me, I am not sure it was such a surprise to our opponent who seemed to be more prepared for it than i was. In any case, a really exciting season. RPI football now has .500 record in their games if you go back and total all wins and losses to about WWII. They are a -91 in won loss record going back through their entire history to before 1900. This is quite a reverse from my experience with RPI football having been in Troy for much of their historical losing streak of the early to mid 1960's. Unfortunately, the last 25 years of RPI hockey has gone in the opposite direction. :(

RpI men had some weekend. 1 goal for and 9 goals against in the two losses. I understand these were two very good opponents, but the only descriptor I can come up with for RPI is sad, very, very sad.

But it is not just on the ice that things are going poorly. We pay $80 a season for parking. And a friend who sits with us does the same. But no one was checking parking passes at the lot either night. And then all during the game we were distracted by the kids running wild through the stands. And behind the west end net. No one stopped them. And I’m not just talking a couple kids. It was many. Used to be Fieldhouse game day staff who would not allow that stuff. But not any more.

We actually confronted them at one point asking them to stop. They just moved away from us and continued. My main concern is one of these kids is going to fall and get hurt. What is sad also is the parents didn’t seem to care. I can see it now: parents ignore their kids behavior, one of them falls and hits their head on the concrete stairs and the parents sue RPI for millions, wailing in court how RPI encouraged the behavior Kids running through the stands during play. It used to be this would happen to celebrate a goal when a band member would run around the outside of the rink with a flag and kids would follow them. Now it’s a free for all. Is the staff afraid that if they stop this that that will decrease attendance?

Welp, if there is one thing to come out of this weekend, it's a lot of tape to review. Luckily, there is a good amount of time to review it before we return to ECAC play with the rematch series vs Princeton and Qpac on January 9, 10. Hopefully the short break between now and January 3rd is what the team needs.
