Final -RPI (even with a pathetic offense today) 14 and Stevenson 10. The Cardiac kids scored a TD with only 33 seconds left to win this one. That is two weeks in a row that we had last minute scores to win!! Meanwhile they needed a calculator to total up the point Union scored today.

A win is a win and it's a heck of a lot more fun than losing.

After watching the last drive, you have to wonder how RPI could be so efficient on offense in the final minutes of the game and so pathetic (to use Dr. D's word) in the first 55 minutes or so.

Waite: A couple of observations. our defense is as good as any we have had in years. Our offense is pathetic but I sense there are things that can be done. Individually there is talent but our quarterback position needs to learn (quickly) how to create time for himself. He often is caught in the pocket far too long. he needs to learn to look off receivers and not look for his primary until he is ready to throw. He often seems not to be able to find his secondary or tertiary target and often will simply throw to this first choice whether there is double or even triple coverage. But mostly, he may need either to move out of the pocket to buy time or more easily - simply run and try to gain some yardage after the pass play seems busted. So often he has a clear field for gaining 5-10 yards on his own but just insists on trying to complete the pass. The running attack for 2 weeks has been non existent but we have backs who are quite capable if the proper run is selected and the quarterback can do a better job of misdirection. Just my opinion but we will need to do so much more if we are to have any hope against powerhouses like Union and Hobart.

You're right about the defense being really good. They've allowed only one touchdown in two games, and that came after the other team was gifted with a very short field after RPI's punter fumbled a snap and was tackled at his own 19 yard line.

Believe it or not, George Marinopoulos has been RPI's regular starting quarterback since the sixth game of the 2017 season. When it comes to learning how to create time for himself, he's been kind of a slow learner.

Waite: I think he could be very good. But because he is not the most mobile, he needs simply to find ways to create either a bit of space or certainly some time enough to find a second receiver. I make it sound easy but I know it is not. We are a rather small sized team, especially in the line up front. Some of the teams we will be playing are huge! Union and Hobart in particular have considerable size up front and quite a bit of experience. We have had virtually zero running success so far and that is quite different from the past years. We were always able to move the ball on the ground and this year we have had close to zero success. Either we find more trick plays or misdirection or will have to depend solely on passing. That being the case, the opposition will be firing off the line and bringing a linebacker or two on every play. We have one more game (WPI) to try some things before the real season begins. Here's hoping!!
Just ruminating a bit since our hockey season is still a couple weeks away. Not trying to over anticipate anything but I think we have the chance for a very surprising and good hockey season. I like what we have on paper and just need to see a couple games on the ice to know if we are going anywhere. LGR!

I have a new assignment. I'm serving parishes in Ravena (s.e. Albany County) and Coxsackie (n.e. Greene County). Looking forward to the new season even if it means watching lots of RPItv (which has top-notch production values). Enjoy the fall!

Wow, 4 games in a row against Alaska-Fairbanks. I've been following this program since '89 and I can't remember ever playing the same team consecutively 4 times....

I am going to start the new thread soon? Any further suggestions for a title?
At the moment I am torn between the following:
RPI 2021-22: Picking Up Where We Left Off (25+years)
RPI 2021-22: Suspended Momentum (Tbone)
They have the same meaning.

I don't think they have the same meaning. I wasn't a physics major but I don't see how you suspend momentum without killing it. It sounds like an a priori excuse. "Picking up where we left off" is a more positive statement. In reality, I don't think any of us have a handle on how things will go after a year off and significant transfers in both directions, but I'd rather be upbeat until there is on ice evidence to the contrary.
