RPI 2020 Off-season Overtime: In Memory of Turk181

I know it's too late for anything to happen on the hockey front this academic year, but I seem to recall that when the return to in-person instruction was given the green light, spring sports were also given the green light to begin practice.

That was several weeks ago. If the spring sports teams were allowed to begin practice, presumably it was with the idea that they would eventually play in games.

I look at the Liberty League schedule for men's lacrosse and seven teams are scheduling games. Union, which joined with us in cancelling the winter sports season, is one of those who are participating in games. RPI, however, is nowhere to be found on any of their schedules.

Of course, if there are only seven teams scheduling games, one of those seven has an open date each Saturday. This Saturday, Vassar has an open date. Next Saturday, it will be Clarkson. The following week, Skidmore, and on May 1, the last week of the season, St. Lawrence is open.

Why in the name of sense can't our athletic director call up those four schools and say "Hey, I see you guys have an open date. How about we get together and play a game?"

Or is he still waiting for someone to make up her mind as to whether any sports should be allowed to happen this year?

Our AD wants to play, but ultimately, the decision is up to one person. Until she gives the green light, our teams won't compete, and that's the bottom-line. I know the spring teams have been practicing at the very least

Today is 8 April 2021. There are 177 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 2 October 2021 for the start of next season.

Vassar & SLU have RPI on their schedule for men's lacrosse....not sure why RPI can't publish a schedule.

Hearing Brady Ferner has a new home as of 5 days after he entered portal back on March 8th.....high profile hockey school.

Billy Jerry also has found a new school.

Did Shirley turn off WRPI also? Is squelching free speech also on her agenda?

While the answer to the second question may well be yes, I doubt WRPI is front of mind for accomplishing that goal. More likely, a lack of students on campus to staff the station combined with confined quarters preventing distancing were the culprits behind the shutdown. We had a case in this area where a radio jock caught COVID and spread it to a half-dozen or more on-air guests.

“LIU also added RPI center Billy Jerry and Alaska-Anchorage goalie Kris Carlson. When UAA last played two seasons ago, Carlson had a 3.15 GAA and .907 save percentage in 21 starts. Jerry, who is 6-foot-4, had five points in 33 games for RPI two seasons ago.”-per College Hockey Insider

So we will have the chance to boo both Jerry and Babichuk at the HFH. :-)

That makes sense, and if it is correct, it could indicate a significant advancement.

Would never boo or harass any player who had been at RPI and left for a valid reason. In the past have always booed and hissed anyone who had the chance to come to Troy and would rather go elsewhere. Those remain as ones who we do not mention.

I agree Doc. Credit Billy for his open letter calling out Shirley's BS on behalf of all RPI student-athletes.

Some positive news hopefully.....
