How many simulated flops were there?

Re: RPI 2020 Off-season: Off-season Cancelled

Doherty would make a good addition for RPI. Tied for the team lead in goals, 2nd in points, and led Maine in SOG by a wide margin. Plus, he’s a senior which means he wouldn’t have to sit out a year. The team could use some senior leadership since we only have Billy Jerry and Linden Marshall as seniors next season.
Looking like Doherty will be heading to Happy Valley (PSU).

I still think that he will play for ASU.

Re: RPI 2020 Off-season: Off-season Cancelled

Today is 1 April 2020. There are 185 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 3 October 2020 for the start of next season.

I still think that he will play for ASU.

I have to admit that I know nothing about these things, but how can ASU improve his professional aspirations?
I would think that he would rather go to a more noted hockey school where he could be noticed.

First of all, they have in very short order built a winning program... I think they were 22-11 this year... With the internet video technology, the scouting world has gotten a lot smaller. You can watch just about any junior or college game online on any given night from anywhere in the world. ASU last season played many top teams - including Minn. St., Qpac, Denver, Mich. St., N. Omaha, Harvard, Clarkson and Wisconsin...my guess is there were a few scouts at those games...:D Add in that he majority of growth in the NHL and AHL is in the western half of the US (Las Vegas, Seattle, many AHL moved to the west) -- there is no shortage of scouting opportunities.

I only think that because he lives in AZ.

BTW, when ASU announced their program, I thought he would decommit from RPI. I was obviously wrong.

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense.
I would still like to see him in Troy for one more season.

Re: RPI 2020 Off-season: Off-season Cancelled

Just a little something off the path -The March 23rd issue of the National Enquirer (a well known reliable resource) page 47 has a 3/4 page article with pictures of the RPI Cross Country boys team and their desire for Chick-fil-A. It explains what they did to find the closest place to buy ( a kiosk inside an airport that required a valid ticket to access the food court). They ordered 15 chicken sandwiches, 15 large fries, 13 orders of chicken nuggets, one bag of cookies and one lemonade. The total tab came to $227.28 after buying a $98 one way ticket from Albany to Ft. Lauderdale. When asked they all insisted it was worth it.
Thanks to Jenny for finding this. Never underestimate the ingenuity of the RPI boys!!

Re: RPI 2020 Off-season: Off-season Cancelled

Adam had played some Major Junior games.

I knew he played in a few preseason Major Junior games but he paid the penalty of sitting out the same number of games. AFAIK, at the time it did not permanently ban a player.

Re: RPI 2020 Off-season: Off-season Cancelled

First of all, thanks for the video RB. I was there and is one of my finest memories ever!

Not really sure about the agreement, but I do remember that Oates played in a Major Junior A tournament and at the time I don’t think they allowed players who played on that level to play in the ECAC. In fact, he was suspended for what I believe was 8 games before he was eligible to play in the 1982-83 season.

This is what I said earlier.

Re: RPI 2020 Off-season: Off-season Cancelled

Anyone have the scoop/ input on captains for next year? One Sr who plays a position other than goalie. Assuming the Jr class will have some representation.

Re: RPI 2020 Off-season: Off-season Cancelled

So, with no sports going on "what if" columns are all the rage in the sports writing world. With that in mind, I'm offering the series that Without a Peer did way back in 2012 as the RPI equivalent.

Kind of proud of this still after all these years. This came back up when a friend of mine pontificated on the 1984 Engineers, and I posted the according "what if" to his Facebook wall in response. An actual member of the '84 Engineers sounded off on it and thought it was well reasoned, so I figured I'd take advantage of the opportunity to share them with you all again.

What if...

1944: ...Livingston Houston hadn't become president of RPI?

1954: ...Gordie Peterkin hadn't scored his overtime winner in the national championship?

1964: ...Rube Bjorkman hadn't left RPI after one season?
https://www.withoutapeer.com/2012/12/what-if-bjorkmans-conundrum.html

1968:...Doug Hearns hadn't beaten Ken Dryden?
https://www.withoutapeer.com/2012/12/what-if-another-day-at-office.html

1979: ...RPI hadn't started offering athletic scholarships?
https://www.withoutapeer.com/2012/12/what-if-money-in-bank.html

1983: ...RPI had joined Hockey East?
https://www.withoutapeer.com/2012/12/what-if-eastern-promises.html

1984: ...the Engineers had solved Jon Casey?
https://www.withoutapeer.com/2012/12/what-if-lake-placid-in-march.html

1985: ...George Servinis had been called back for offsides?
https://www.withoutapeer.com/2012/12/what-if-whistle-blown-for-offsides.html

1989: ...Mike Addesa hadn't been forced to resign?
https://www.withoutapeer.com/2012/12/what-if-tempered-temper.html

2004: ...Division III hadn't grandfathered "play-up" scholarships?
https://www.withoutapeer.com/2012/12/what-if-purity.html

2006: ...Andy Murray had accepted the job at RPI?
https://www.withoutapeer.com/2012/12/what-if-king-of-troy.html

2010: ...Jerry D'Amigo and Brandon Pirri hadn't left RPI after just one season?
https://www.withoutapeer.com/2012/12/what-if-wait-until-next-year.html

I'm especially proud of those last two, which were recent history when I tackled them and, looking back, both seem to be adequate turning points for the program.

EDIT: Yeah, I can't really figure out how to make the links work. I presume it's this mysterious https thing.
