Does that count as a full season? If so, it seems as though he should not be counted as a newcomer. If not, it seems as though he should still be considered a freshman in terms of eligibility.

Does that count as a full season? If so, it seems as though he should not be counted as a newcomer. If not, it seems as though he should still be considered a freshman in terms of eligibility.
He probably has enough credits to be a sophomore and that they go by class year. That's why you have some players listed as grad students on some rosters.
