RPI 2015 Off Season Thread: Another Long Spring and Summer :(

Perhaps another reason why Kasdorf is *knock on wood* still with us; it gives Hackett a chance to develop his skills and work for ice time. Remember that Kasdorf's stats were just as anemic in his one year in the USHL. With that team, the coach didn't bother with much of anything behind his own blue line, supposedly. ;)

And why do I have this sudden urge to call the new goalie recruit "Buddy"? :p

Considering the quality of schools that were after him, and the fact that Cornell almost had him, you have to believe that this kid has some talent.
I don't remember that last time that Cornell had a bad goaltender.
I look forward to seeing him in Troy.
You have to give props to the coaching staff for getting a quality goalie in such a short period of time.

lets go red!!!!!!!!!

His stats were brutal I'm sure Seth can work. A fix

I was looking at Dillon's Hockey's Future profile and noticed that he was coming off a 3.96 GAA/.890 save % season in Junior B when Seth offered him. Those certainly aren't overwhelming stats, but Seth must have an eye for goaltending talent as the kid blew up as a prospect in the following two years. That's the gamble when you are recruiting young kids but it is the trend in college hockey and we have to take such risks. Fortunately, we seem to have found a replacement that is at the least a solid prospect and maybe more. If I remember correctly Joel Laing was a late addition that worked out extremely well so hopefully lightning will strike again.

The question is the real reason that he didn't go to Cornell. It was said that Cornell wanted him to defer from 2014 to 2015, and he didn't want to. But clearly he didn't have another 2014 offer ready, so he is still starting in 2015. A matter of fact if AD hadn't left RPI he wasn't going to start college in 2015 either. It seems a bit odd to me.

Overtheboards.net says the de-commit was February of 2014, so the story could still hold, but it may have also been for financial reasons, especially now that a scholarship originally for you-know-who is open, and the NLI signing period is still active until 1 August.

Re: RPI 2015 Off Season Thread: Another Long Spring and Summer :(

Today is 17 June 2015. There are 108 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 3 October 2015 for the start of next season.

Re: RPI 2015 Off Season Thread: Another Long Spring and Summer :(

Now that we have a new goalie, hopefully the roster will be posted soon, especially if Brady Wiffen keeps number 94.

BTW, the halfway point of the off-season is a week from today, 6/24/15, at 8:04 AM. That is based upon our last game ending at 9:08 PM on 3/14/15, and the next starting at 7 PM on 10/3/15. Both are in EDT, so an adjustment for that is not needed.

I can't imagine he'll be allowed to keep such a high number. Doesn't seem to be OGC's style to let skaters go higher than 30 (Haggerty being the exception).

Re: RPI 2015 Off Season Thread: Another Long Spring and Summer :(

Last time we had a high number on the men's side was Brad Farynuk wearing 44. Allison Wright on the women's side wore 86.

I agree. I have only recently started to accept numbers in the 30s for goalies.

I count Haggerty's 39 and Watts's 33 as high numbers used since Farynuk.

I was just looking at rosters and saw that Watts was a sophomore my freshman year, when I admittedly wasn't paying very close attention to the specific players on the ice. Why didn't he come back for the other two years of his eligibility?

Re: RPI 2015 Off Season Thread: Another Long Spring and Summer :(

What do you want them to wear? 1 and ???

It matters if one counts 30 as being in the 30s. It's the same question as which year was the first one of this century. :p

When I was young pro teams only carried two goalies, and they were almost always 1 and 30. The highest number for RPI in the late 60s was 20. No more were needed since we had such small rosters.

He transferred to Adrian College where he got more ice time.
