Dang Doc 6 foot 137 you must have been skin and bones Sub 3 at boston is something to be proud of.Did the Wesley girls beg for kisses back then like they do Now? I lost a little time with that. I said to myself what the hell if they want to kiss a sweaty guy pushing 50 who am I to disappoint them. I am getting stoked for race day .

I was a rail with good runners legs. I was 3 years out of RPI and had run in NYC high school as a miler, two miler and cross country. Was able to run just over 5 minutes per mile for the early part of the race which kept me up with a lot of the leaders but after about the 8-10 mile mark was already slipping to 5 1/2 minute miles and as mentioned after that downhill section with about 8 miles to go, I was hanging on and just running on instinct. I was in fairly decent condition but had not had any serious coaching in about 6 years. That long a distance is all about pace and running within yourself. . Do not recall any Wesley girls being there and if they were, wife #1 would have made sure i ran with blinders on. Not sure what kind of weather you are best running with, but hope you have a cool tailwind and are well carbed and hydrated. BTW that weight of 137 was before the race-was afraid to get on the scale after as i am sure it was far less.

Doc, I believe I'm a few bricks heavier than you. ;)

So am I now. Jenny is a gourmet Italian cook. I think my waist size now is what my chest size was then! Couple years ago i was 184 when I decided it was time to control it a bit. Simply avoiding 4 foods over the past 2 years and I am now holding steady at 160.

Doc, 5- 5:30 pace is an insane pace for all but the truly elite runners. With that type of early pace the last 8 HAD to be brutal. You are spot on about pace in a marathon making the race. I always tell my self ,stay calm, then they do the intros for the world class guys, sing the anthem and do a military fly over and all of a sudden you are so jacked up you can`t control yourself. cool with a tail wind would be perfect!

Does anyone know if Andrew Franks has any remaining football eligibility? If he does, I wonder if he'd consider exercising his remaining eligibility while pursuing a grad degree at a D-1 school so as to compete for a kicking opportunity and a chance to excel at a higher level?

Steve Hauschka, a 2008 Middlebury grad, pursued a grad degree at North Carolina State. Hauschka, who is the placekicker for the Seahawks, is planning on dental school after his nfl career is over.

In my first marathon, a friend and I decided that we wanted to run a steady comfortable pace and not even think of "competing." We ran our first mile in 6:52. At the 18 mile mark, our time averaged out to 6:53 per mile. Then the wall. My friend was fine, me, not so much. from miles 19 through 24 my pace dropped to 8:38 per mile. Then the relief of knowing it was about over must have kicked in, my last mile was 5:20. Around 3:07 total for the trip.

That describes my reaction exactly. I always tried to stay calm and stay within myself and run my own race. i was taught it is not me against any one else it was simply me against the distance. All fine and dandy, but i am a competitive SOB and I start out OK and then start thinking that I can keep up with the guy ahead of me, and then the one ahead of him and so on. In the mile and two mile and even cross country i could usually do it. But the marathon beat me far more often than i beat it. honestly, I think if i had taken a sedative and a pain reliever(for me knees) before the race i could have finished far better.

I am sure he passed the quiz (after all, he is an RPI boy). And i think he has the leg strength. Not sure what else you need besides accuracy and the ability to lift the ball quickly over those tall rushing defenders but i suspect that kicking in practice versus kicking in game conditions are so completely different which is what separates those who make it from those who do not.

edit: But what would I know about kicking. The last kicker I rooted for was Lou 'The Toe' Groza on the old Cleveland Browns back in the 1950's.

Looks like it may be another 36-game year; one of the posters mentioned in the Schedules thread that we would be going to Alaska.

If we're playing Arizona State (and given my source on the info, I'd say we are), the possible weekends are:

October 3/4 (unlikely)
November 20/21
November 27/28
December 11/12

Currently in Boston. Cold and raw in the 30s here. Will be wearing my Servinis jersey tonight (which will probably upset a few Providence fans). Just hoping for 3 great games this weekend. :)

I suspect hat it has been discussed on the ASU thread, but do you know if they are playing enough D-I games for the games to count for NCAA tourney purposes? (I am relatively optimistic at this time of the year, so the question has some importance, :D )

Re: RPI 2015 Off Season Thread: Another Long Spring and Summer :(

It currently looks like we are going to have five entering forwards this coming year -- Fornaris, Ohrvall, Rodriguez, Tironese, and Wiffen. We are losing three -- Laliberte, McGowen, and Neal. Thus we will go from 14 to 16. While 14 was too few, 16 is more than we usually have. Now it is possible that someone will delay arriving for a year, but I don't think so. Does anyone think that someone will leave, either for the pros or because of expected lack of playing time?

I don't have access to the spreadsheet at this time, but IIRC, 20 games are needed to qualify, hence why that's usually the minimum number of games you'll see for a league. Not sure what they're up to, but I do know they actually qualify for the Kendall exemption (for the nit-picky ones, playing Alaska teams in Alaska).

16 forwards for 12 slots in the rotation doesn't seem too bad, and considering how injury (or illness) prone the team seems to be, it might not be a bad idea to prepare for that contingency.
