Based on a very brief scan of info available on the internet, both look promising. The RPI announcement shows Hylwa as a forward but most info on her seems to indicate she has played mostly D.

From the recruit announcement

The Engineers will return seven of their top 10 scorers from the 2012-13 season. Ten forwards, five defensemen and three goaltenders are also expected back in the fall.

By my count someone isn't expected back. Looking at the stats http://collegehockeystats.net/1213/teamstats/renw, it's one of the top ten scorers since eight have eligibility. All eight are in the RPI directory.

The numbers don't seem to add up. It says ten forwards are returning, but I count Gruschow, Smelker, Cox, Sanders, Wash, both Mankeys, Svoboda, Mahoney, Walsh, Padmore, and Letuligasenoa - that's 12. So are two forwards leaving, one of which was in the top ten?

Someone posted earlier that Padmore isn't coming back even though she has a year of eligibility. So that means one isn't returning -- or someone in the RPI Athletic Department can't count.

Re: RPI 2013 Women's off-season

Without a Peer has tweeted that Brent Hill has left to join the staff at Merrimack.

Re: RPI 2013 Women's off-season

As a WRPI announcer, I'm looking forward to a Hylwa-Huhtamaki-Latulegasenoa line.

Re: RPI 2013 Women's off-season

Based on everything that I have heard about Hill, this is a huge loss for RPI.

Massive loss - great person and coach by all accounts I have heard. Surprising that being an asst at Merrimack is more attractive than RPI - salary maybe?

Re: RPI 2013 Women's off-season

Does post-graduation count as off-season? Kudos to former Engineer co-captain Laura Gersten on a very impressive 2013 IRONMAN Lake Placid with a time of 11:02:51. Yes, that's hours.

Category Rank: 6 / 68
Overall Rank: 262 / 2538

RPI
Amanda Kimmerle...D....Anoka, MN

Her tweet https://twitter.com/akimmerle/status/368072982159056896

Her page from MN Girls Hockey Hub http://www.mngirlshockeyhub.com/roster_players/1866817?subseason=86658. She played forward prior to last year.

Seems to be an earlier than normal start on RPI recruiting (or maybe just earlier than normal announcements?). Need to replace 4 forwards and one D for 2014.

She is the second whom we know about. Shayna Tomlinson was announced in April.

I think that like the men, women's recruiting is getting earlier. Also, there is more information being promulgated on the web. A problem is that one has to find it sometimes. The facts that Huhtamaki and Hylwa had committed to RPI were both on the web before the official RPI announcement, but no one had posted it here.
