RPI 2013-2014 Season

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

I could hear in the background of the RPI-TV mike as Saturday's game was ending someone stating that his daughter would be playing for RPI next year and asking about internet broadcasts. Did anyone else hear that? Even better does anyone know who the recruit is? :)

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

This year's team seems a little Jekyl and Hyde-ish....some impressive performances (beating Harvard) and some dismal results (Connecticut?). Always the optimist, I expect them to demolish Colgate and play Cornell tough (win, tie, or close loss would be okay). But I am watching them from afar. Anyone who sees them up close (e.g. R.Karger) with a perspective on how well prepared they might be for this road weekend?

I only wish I was seeing them up close, I've been on co-op in California all semester! I've only seen them on RPITV so far this season.

You are almost as far away as I am! I saw a post that said that you were in the band ("THE" band). Return soon to support my team!

I'll be back in a couple weeks but winter break and the women's schedule means I won't see them play until late January unfortunately.

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

Unfortunately, didn't see the games this weekend but gotta be happy with a split: 3-1 loss to #3 Cornell followed by a 3-zip win over Colgate. From what I have seen, I really think that this team has the potential to finish higher in the ECAC than any previous Engineers team, but it's early in the season and time will tell. If they are as good as I hope they are, they should be looking to pick up 4 points next weekend.

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

I dunno how many of you have seen what I'm doing for the men's ECAC season on that side of the board, but I just made a similar program (using KRACH) to simulate out the women's season, so I can give a quick rundown of RPI's chances each week.

With 100,000 simulations, here's what we get:

Range - 3rd - 12th
Mean Rank - 7.74
Median Rank - 7th
Mode Rank - 7th
Home playoffs - 0.1% (gotta have faith!)
Playoffs - 77.2%
Most likely opponent - @Harvard

Sounds about right. Tough team to figure out so far, they tend to beat strong teams and lose to weak teams. This last weekend was the first time this year that they performed the way that the models would have expected...losing to high ranked Cornell and then beating low ranked Colgate. Prior to that, if you look at the current Rutter rankings of their opponents, they hadn't lost a game in regulation against teams in the top half (win and OT loss to RMU; win over Harvard; tie vs BU), and were 0-5  against teams in the bottom half (Northeastern, Vermont, Connecticut (twice) and Dartmouth). Personally, I think that there is more upside than downside on that projected 7th place finish, but this weekend will be a test, as they play two teams that should finish below them.

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

RPI completely dominating play but trailing 2-1 after 2 periods against Yale (haven't we heard this story a few times this year?). Shots are 27-7 but seems even more lopsided than that.

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

Wow! Yale beats RPI 2-1 despite a shot advantage of 40-12 for RPI.

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

I've seen this happen way too many times on both sides of the coin. Sometimes, you just run into a tough goaltender. That's going to happen.

If that's the case, we have run into a string of tough goaltenders on low-ranked teams all season.

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

From what I saw when we played Colgate, we didn't have much trouble putting the puck in the net.

You might want to check out the games against Connecticut (twice), Vermont, Dartmouth, and now Yale. But I will admit we did a better job of getting traffic in front of the net today.

Of course I was a little busy listening to Jim Craig heckle me throughout the third. Tough being the only RPI fan in a building. ;)

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

RPI probably wanted to take all four points this weekend, but Yale doesn't quite look like the total pushover they've been in the past and we had to settle for the split. Here's what my simulator spits out after this weekend's action (100,000 simulations):

Range - 3rd - 12th
Mean Rank - 8.03
Median Rank - 8th
Mode Rank - 8th
Home playoffs - 0.1% (still gotta have faith!)
Playoffs - 70.4%
Most likely opponent - @Cornell

Yale pretty much took our spot in 7th place. Jerks.

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

Not much ECAC action this weekend, so not much changed:

Range - 3rd - 12th
Mean Rank - 8.13
Median Rank - 8th
Mode Rank - 8th
Home playoffs - 0.1%
Playoffs - 68.6%
Most likely opponent - @Cornell

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

The Engineers seem to be on a mission this year to demonstrate that shots on goal don't count:rolleyes:. They swept St.Cloud this weekend despite being outshot in both games. In games where RPI has outshot their opponents they have only won once (1 win, 5 losses, 1 tie) but in games where they have been outshot they are 5-3-1.

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

Nice sweep by the RPI girls this weekend. The quality of goals has greatly improved including more passes, playmaking and pp goals !
Good sweep in time for Princeton next Friday at Baker
