I don't see any mention of it on this thread, but novelist Tom Clancy passed away a couple of days ago. (Don't worry, this post isn't going to be as morbid as it's starting out to be.)

Clancy must have had an acquaintance with an RPI alum or two. I can recall passages from at least two of his books in which he referred to RPI hockey.

I don't recall the title of the book from which it came, but one of the passages concerned two guys talking and the first one mentioned that his son was beginning the college search process and was interested in engineering. I don't remember the exact wording, but the remainder of the conversation went something like this.

The second guy said, "Well, he ought to think about going to Rensselaer."

The first guy said, "Rensselaer? Where's that?"

And the second guy said, "Troy, New York. It's a really good engineering school. And they have a great hockey program. Those d*amn nerds win the national championship about every other year."

Anyone else remember that passage? Do you remember which book it comes from?
