Re: RPI 2013/14: Sunny, with a slight chance of drivel

Oh FFS, Baker doing the Union game... that'll mean a bunch of fighting majors on RPI and nothing on #26.

Re: RPI 2013/14: Sunny, with a slight chance of drivel

Very quiet on here for an RPI/Union weekend. IMO goaltending will be the difference in these games. I was able to see Union a few times before the ECAC league games started. They have alot of speed up front and with Gothisbere on D. Seems like they might struggle a little with bigger physical teams that possess a fair amount of speed. What looked like a Kasdorf/Grosenick matchup in the spring has taken a whole different direction. These will be the highest pressure games that either of these goalies have played in and I expect their perfromances will have a high impact on the results. I'm guessing that taking 3 - 5 minute majors will not help the cause! Should be fun.

Goaltending may be the difference in this game, or the Engineer's ability to play with a lead may be a factor. This probably the best team SA has had, but he needs to finish the game. The team has great speed! If the pass isn't open dump the puck and go hammer that dman. Size on the wings is great but speed can be better.
Loosin the puck in the neutral zone or a weak pass or on a breakaway is a lot worse than having to forecheck.
I have seen too many bad passes late in the game from the cherry & white.

PS make sure your investmentments & 401k's aren't held by the guy who sold them to ya OMG Yikes poor JJ

Re: RPI 2013/14: Sunny, with a slight chance of drivel

Brandon Pirri scored his 4th of the season on a deflection against the Phoenix Coyotes. We get all their games here. Tied 4-4 now with about eighty shots on goal. Please excuse alumni thread miscalculation.

Re: RPI 2013/14: Sunny, with a slight chance of drivel

And he scores on his first shootout attempt ever to win the game.

Re: RPI 2013/14: Sunny, with a slight chance of drivel

My herp-derp perspective on what RPI needs to do to win these games:

- Stay out of the box!!!
- Play 60 minutes of hockey, not 40
- Actually defend on the left wing (anyone else notice that Colgate had 526,372 scoring chances on this part of the ice due to RPI not having any defense over there?)
- Stop passing the puck through the slot on the PP. It works only 5% of the time and I still don't know why we do it. Especially against good teams like Union, it won't work. Moar shots from blue line!

Let's go Red.

Shoot from the blue line, easy block by the forward, SHG. That's why you work a good shot. Not like we're going to get a power play (that matters) with Baker donning the stripes.

Considering how much Nick Bailen derped on the blue line (I think we all remember that 5x3 against Quinnipiac last season, as an example), of course it's a given that you don't take a shot from there with a defenseman or forward standing 3 feet in front of you. It should be implied that I meant "smart shots from the blue line", including a good goaltender screen. But knowing how these games are reffed, we'll probably get the goal disallowed for having 0.125" of skate blade in the crease.

On another note, I think it's that usual time to start deciding on a new thread title...

I was thinking the same thing. Also keep those shots low to possibly get a deflection.

Or Stevens will take a dive, like Kinkaid did three years ago.

I'm glad we can both agree on good shots that get close to the crease, even if it is to one of our forwards looking for a tip or a rebound. You don't have to talk to me about Bailen, as I believe we are the only two posters that will actually admit this obvious flaw.

Another question is do we start a new thread since USCHO's thread-closing Bot hasn't worked in a while?

My vote is to start a new one assuming someone comes up with a decent title.

If threads aren't being closed, why would we need to start a new one?

Oh, and stay out of the box!!(Emphasis intended) Do not give the mice the chance to call 5 minute majors for borderline things(if you are going to take the penalty make it a worth while and memorable hit and take someone with you). And above all-do not give them the chance to put us down 2 men. This is an away game in a loud rink(and we have to know that the refs can be influenced by the crowd on some calls). Strongly suspect the team that wins the special teams battle wins both games.
