Re: RPI 2013/14 Part II: The HFH is Covered with Frozen Drivel

Obviously Flagdud has never played hockey in his life. Why do you all keep fueling the fire for him? From things I have read that he has put on here I am not even sure he has ever played sport in his life.

I just wanna know the rules/laws of college hockey so I can apply them towards my enjoyment of the game. He is the holder of the rules so thats why Im asking him.

I don't have much trouble believing he's worn a hockey helmet before. Whether he's played hockey or not is another thing.

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part II: The HFH is Covered with Frozen Drivel

I was wondering if Flagdude could run down or list these so-called rules he keeps throwing out...my mind is blown trying to figure out all these rules and laws based off of this game we enjoy.

Ask Brian Sullivan, who writes for the ECAC on here. ;)

Because you don't know the rule you're quoting?

(Note to everyone: This is how you get him to divulge information that his posts lack, BTW.)

We were going downhill during Fridgen's last few years. We were unable to win any recruiting battles at the end, guys like Colin Greening. He did OK with the talent he had but the team seemed to be in a death spiral at the end.

Shouldn't compare Fridgen's last couple years with Appert's years. In the end Fridg was going year to year. No player wants to go to a program where the coach may not be there for four years. RPI gave Appert a break on the academic standards and more money to recruit with.
I still think RPI can win the ECAC. If they don't get into the NCAA tourney Seth should be taken to the woodshed.

Finally something I can agree with you on, although I think "woodshed" might be a bit harsh, there would certainly be some room for criticism at that point. This is a team with an offense that has repeatedly proven that it can be among the best in the nation, and although the defense did take a serious hit losing a goaltender that was being discussed as a preseason Hobey contender, it should most nights be enough to get the job done. This team has high expectations this year (and I still think higher expectations next season), but this needs to be an NCAA team as it is currently comprised.

Get your head out of that Cloud. This team has only one line that can score. Any team that has a good checking line neutralizes our big line and that has been our problem. So we do not have nor have we proven that we can be among the best in the nation. Unless we go on a long winning streak, which is highly doubtful given that the team goes into prolonged walk-abouts, the only way we can possibly make the Nationals is to win the ECAC tournament. We were totally outplayed by DU last night at home - if not for Diebold we could have lost by several goals (Kasdorf couldn't have done any better). It is still clear to me that whatever Appert is telling the boys during the game isn't working or it is not getting through. We never see a positive adjustment when things start to go wrong (almost every second period). Appert's record at RPI is in the minus 40 range. He is the first coach since Garry Kearns (during my stay at RPI) to have a losing record. I for one was sorry to see that Appert was re-upped. I don't buy this fallacious argument that you need time to build up a program. Just look to the West a bit and see what Union has done. It is time to change 'em up.

We have more than one line that can score. 15-19-17 can also score although Bubela is having a bit of a sophomore slump and Laliberte's injury yesterday was a big problem. Also Tinordi isn't doing badly and Schroeder is still on the road to recovery. IMHO, if the other team puts all of their resources to stop Haggerty's line we are better off overall.

I'll grant you Laliberte has a bunch of helpers but aside from Haggerty, Higgs and Neale, no other player on the team has more than 4 goals in 17 games played. Those 3 account for 60% of the goals scored thus far. Not exactly what I would call balanced scoring. Right now we have a first line and a few third lines, maybe.

There have been several recent years we had no lines that could score.

Ralph said all that needs to be said, I don't really need to add anything. If you're complaining about offense on the 7th highest scoring team in the country, you've probably got your head Deep in your rear end.

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part II: The HFH is Covered with Frozen Drivel

Well I'll give Appert credit that he did recognize that the DU forecheck was smothering and the RPI gaps were too generous. That aside his Appspin  regarding shots on goal was ridiculous. DU did outplay us by that wide a margin, the shots were not 'misleading'. Also his admission that he made adjustments in between periods is incriminating. If there were any they were invisible and at the very least non-effective. :(

Little Kim, we have had the 37th toughest schedule of the 59 teams, that is in the lower half in case you can't do the math. Look at our scoring against the creampuffs - Scared Heart (6-0 & 7-1), Dartmouth (7-1), Princeton (5-2). Take away those and you can see that our offense ranking is skewed by several blow-out wins vs. bad teams. You can't just take the rankings at face value. Try doing some analysis next time before you quote your stats or execute your uncle.

Holy whining Batman. First you whine about the offense, then you whine about where it comes from. I guess it doesn't count when we play teams YOU don't think count.

I guess I was wrong about you.

But you can't. People don't seem to grasp that. I hate the term "take away those and you'll see a different team. They are there, they must be included.

Hey, If I can take away the first six games of the season, the Giants would be in the playoffs. :D

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part II: The HFH is Covered with Frozen Drivel

The worst part of all of this shrill whining from people like DeepSped72 and FlagDUD is that legitimate concerns get glossed over. I'd love to have a rational discussion about the deficiencies that ARE there, instead we get wrapped up with these numbskulls talking about figments of their imagination.

Ok woodshed may be a little harsh. How about double triple probation? Seriously, if Seth doesn't get to the NCAA playoffs this year they should give him clear defined benchmarks that he needs to meet, and a timeframe
to accomplish them.

If you're going to finally have legitimate discussion about the issues RPI is having instead of spinning everything like it was North Korean propaganda, then I consider my mission to be accomplished. It's too bad I had to resort to a Fire Appert thread for people to actually discuss the issues that have plagued this team since Appert started bringing in his own recruits.

Seven years isn't enough time for you?
