If I heard he was decommitting I certainly would be interested! The report I had on him from a very reliable source was that he would make an excellent NCAA level player.

If we have scholarship money available. I was thinking about LaBate again. Conceivably both us and UW (and others) made him offers for 2012. Then LaBate had an opening for 2011 because of the decommital. He then accepted UW's offer. If this was the case, we do not necessarily still have 2011 money.

USHR had a represenative at the Minnesota high school state tournament, Zach Schroeder is one of nine seniors they took a liking too. Heres what they had to say about Zach:

Zach Schroeder, 5-10/165, senior forward, St. Thomas High School
Named to the Class “A” All Tournament Team…58 points in 27 regular season games …With speed and quickness can control play…Effective give-and-go player with quick release… Not deterred by physical play… Creative with the puck; excellent stick handler in traffic.

Also fwiw, two of Schroeder's STA teammates were listed as favorite underclassmen:

Wyatt Schmidt, 6-3/190, sophomore defenseman, St. Thomas AcademyA defensive defenseman whose position play is excellent… Long, smooth skating strideVery patient with the puck; excellent control… Quick release… Could be the complete package next year.

Eric Schurhamer, 5-11/175, sophomore defenseman, St. Thomas Academy
29 points in 28 regular season games…Excellent skater…Good lateral movement…Excellent offensive upside… Capable of taking it end-to-end.

On another note, Ive been wondering if SA had interest in STA senior D-Taylor Fleming, especially after finding this article from last season http://www.mnhockeyhub.com/news_article/show/40060?referrer_id=32760

Colleges have certainly taken notice of Fleming, as he’s been receiving attention from schools as wide-ranging (and academically challenging for the honors student) as Wisconsin, Harvard, Princeton, Quinnipiac, Nebraska-Omaha, Bemidji State, Yale, Brown and many, many more.

Other seniors listed were Kyle Rau, Nick Seeler, Brandon Wahlin, Steven Fogarty, Max Everson, AJ Reid, Garrett Skrbich and Nick DeCenzo. Underclassmen listed were Jared Kolquist, Jared Thomas and Adam Johnson.

Nice assist by Neal. It also was good to see a video with Leonard. He looked quite good out there. We definitely have been improving our defense the last couple of years.

Zach Schroeder was one of three players selected from St. Thomas Academy (Section 4A/4AA) to participate in the annual Ted Brill Great 8 High School Hockey Festival April 1-3 at Wakota Arena in South St. Paul.

The tournament consists of a team of Class A and AA players from each of the Minnesota State High School League's eight sections.

Top players from the Great 8 will be selected to participate in the CCM Minnesota HIgh School Hockey National Invitational April 14-17 in Plymouth.
