On Tuesday, the St. Thomas Academy Cadets defeated the Rochester Lourdes Eagles 6-5. Zach Schroeder had 2 goals (1 SHG, both unassisted) and 2 assists in overtime. http://www.mnhockeyhub.com/game/show/1025688?subseason=27330

Schroeder's line is now 20-16-25-41-6.

From the comments:

There is also a link to a poor-quality video of an earlier goal by Schroeder http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sY1puQGU0E4. This may have been posted earlier.

OK-Maybe I'm missing something-but how do you score 2 assists in overtime? I would think the first assist would have to be on the winning goal. or do they not play sudden death and then play an entire 10 minutes or something? Color me confused as usual.

Oops. I have fixed that. The "in overtime" was in the wrong place.

Just tell Doc that you wanted to see if he was paying attention. ;)
Good work Doc. :)

Ralph knows by now that I read virtually all his posts on these threads-he is a major source of information and rarely does he make an error. I am just surprised when I can catch one.

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. III

On Wednesday, the Youngstown Phantoms lost to the Indiana Ice 5-3. Chris Bradley had a double minor penalty for checking from behind. (He only had one minor penalty previously.) http://ushl.stats.pointstreak.com/boxscore.html?gameid=1341583

Bradley's line is now 40-1-5-6-6.

PK, this is an interesting stat that Ralph brought up. Would you attest this to Chris playing a very disciplined game throughout the season, or is he at the stage where he would benefit more from another year to develop a more aggressive game (while keeping play clean and staying out of the box, of course)? Forgive me if I've already asked this, but it may go a ways toward telling us if we should expect him this year or next.

Interesting question. With the rules being interpreted as they are nowadays, it is definitely harder for defensemen not to get called for obstructive penalties. Makes you wonder when someone can go this long with so few minutes.

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. III

On Wednesday, the Gunnery Highlanders lost to the Avon Old Farms Winged Beavers 3-0. Jake Wood had no points.

Wood's line is now 19-10-11-21-?

Given the persistent concerns over Christopher’s lack of penalty minutes over the course of his season, I thought you guys would be pretty excited to see 4 minutes in one game. Actually, Pointstreak got it wrong. The call was 2 minutes for checking from behind and 2 minutes for roughing. The check from behind probably had to be called, but it arguably was more the case of a big kid running into a little kid along the boards. IMO, the roughing call was nonsense. Opponent tries to get in Christopher’s face, takes a swipe, nothing develops and both get a roughing call. There have been any number of times during the year where Chris was much more deserving of a penalty – this time he found a way to pick up 2 at once.

As I may have said before, Chris plays a disciplined style and always has. His penalty production is a bit lower than what I would have guessed for this point in the season, but it is not out of line with how he approaches the game. His coaches are not demanding that he go out and rough it up more. The Phantoms have other D who are quite capable of racking up penalty minutes, and the coaches seem quite content to have Chris available to keep it disciplined and be available to kill his team mates' penalties.

I do think Chris would benefit from another year in Juniors, and not simply for the purpose of developing an aggressive streak. Chris has only 39 games in Juniors under his belt. I think both his game and his body will benefit from another year of maturity before he makes the jump to D1 hockey. 2012 sounds like the right guess for his arrival in Troy, but who knows for sure?

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. III

Hey PK, Don`t worry if Chris doesn`t take many penalties. RPI always seems to get its fair share somehow.:D

This must have been a makeup for the Jan.7th game at Pope John because USHR lists Delbartons next game on Feb.15th. Theres no results for this game posted, Id just go with the above box score.

Well, there's aggressive penalties (resulting from hard play or insert the "Who's Your Father" chant here), penalties that have to be taken (usually to bail out the team on a rush), and stupid penalties (that could be avoided with proper fundamentals). I know I would be very happy with a disciplined defenseman, but I wouldn't be happy if the player seems disciplined because he is too tentative and doesn't want to get into those situations because he doesn't wish to go to the box. However it sounds like it's aggressive yet disciplined.

Obviously I only saw one game from Chris, so I will revert to not only your judgment, but both Youngstown's and RPI's coaches as well.
