RPI 2011-12 Part VI: Sweet Meteor of Death

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part VI: Sweet Meteor of Death

Now that the ice shavings have settled. This is by far Seth's best year. The way I look at any season it is not what you do in the begining or middle of the season that counts.(Green Bay) If that was the case this woud be his worse season. It is how you mature as the season moves ahead. Seth has made them better. From Jan 6 and beyond they were much better than before the break. Even after the break, the Engineers had some setbacks, and breakdowns that no team should have. Their on ice judgement, concentration and their body language, ugh......it was extremely hard to watch. But they strung together some good periods in Jan.
I don't know how Seth got them back on track but credit where credit is due. Despite what happens with Union, I will be more optimistic going into next season than I was going into this one.

Seth put alot of pressure on the upperclassmen. I personally thought he might loose them and then the whole team would collapse. I guess he knew what he was dealing with because these upperclassmen have shown great character and really played well last weekend. The younger guys have been getting quality ice time and have played well but they still make young guy mistakes.

You need the upperclassmen to win big games. Seth called them out and got what he wanted. Good for him.

To all you yankers who booed the seniors on senior night take a leap!

The last couple of months Patrick Cullen has turned into the player we thought he would be. He has been playing great.
If I get first choice in a mock ECAC draft I take Nick Balien.

Good points Beman, but by no means is work done. The biggest thing Coach has done is shown that he can lead on the road. That's an easy thing to fix. The next thing that needs to be taught is home maturity, and being able to block out distractions that occur at home. Now might not be the best time to teach that, but it certainly needs to be taught. Responsibility lies on both the coaching staff to create the legislation, and the players to execute.

Although if they don't take WaP's advice and turn this weekend into a real road game, it might not hurt to at least give a little advice about blocking out the distractions of home.

It is north of the Northway exit and south of Malfunction Junction, yes. There isn't much of the hamlet left (as it's pretty much ghosted) and is within the town of North Hudson. You have it pretty much correct.
Most of "Underwood" is State Forest preserve lands. What private land in that hamlet is owned by the Underwood Club - a group of privately owned summer camps near and around Makomis Pond. The club was est. by Ohio industrial money back in the day.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part VI: Sweet Meteor of Death

Kudos to Kurt Stutt and partner for the call on all three games. Pretty balanced reporting enthusiastic goal scoring descriptions for both teams. Seemed to be on top of things as they sorted thru the officials calls to let us know what was happening from miles away. FYI icing is when ... oh never mind none of us knows what icing is anymore. Thanks guys.

Underwood is the hamlet near Exit 30 on the Northway. That's where NY 73 starts, at a place colloquially referred to as "Malfunction Junction" (3-way intersection with at-speed ramps and some yield signs). NY 73 goes towards Keene Valley and subsequently on to Lake Placid, while US 9 heads towards Elizabethtown and continues towards Plattsburgh. South of Malfunction Junction, US 9 continues south through Schroon Lake and towards Lake George.

Shoutout to RedCloud... North Hudson...isn't this where the former 'Frontier Town' was located? If so, I'm reminded that to the west is the (in)famous Blue Ridge Highway running to Newcomb and remnant of Tahawas as well as the source of the Hudson River? :)

And the bison ranch...

FYI icing is when ...

"the puck come down, bang you know, before the other guys you know. Nobody there, you know. My arm go comme ça then the game stop then start up."

But seriously, that was a great weekend of announcing. Extra credit for staying strong through the three overtimes!

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part VI: Sweet Meteor of Death

Love the WaP idea... Road trip... Amsterdam is an idea, so is the I88 corridor... Duanesburg or Cobleskill. :) Seriously. :) Close to Schdy, and yet so far. And upwind as well. ;)

OK, here's the big question. We know that RPI plays better on road weekends. Does Appert make them stay at a hotel next weekend even though they live just up the road?

Repeated for due assignment of props and/or creds. I think he should do it.

Yes, that's right next to Exit 29. Essex County 2 (Blue Ridge Road) is how some of my family members used to get out this way, through Long Lake, Inlet, Old Forge, and such. You can definitely call the Blue Ridge Road infamous, since they haven't kept that road up very well since the mid-90's. I've since taken to going down NY 8 through Speculator and Johnsburg.

We always felt we lived in the middle of nowhere in Blue Mt Lake. But then we took the ride up through Long Lake and then over to Newcomb and really saw where nowhere was located.

We travel those roads a lot. The trip from Indian lake down to Speculator is still a haul in bad weather. I worked my way through medical school at the Gables Motel in Speculator every summer. Lake Pleasant was one of the hidden gems up there. The trip from Long Lake through Blue Mt Lake through Raquette Lake and Inlet over to Old Forge in the winter can be a real test of your winter driving skills and the road holding ability of your car. We love the area-still one of the best kept secrets in the East.:)

Having travelled that in the winter many a time (although not with me driving, I've only driven NY 8 to get between here and where I grew up, but my parents always insisted going through the towns when shooting out this way in case something happened to the vehicle), I'm well aware. At least it still gives me justification when some people I know around here keep bugging me about why I have a SUV instead of a hybrid or sub-compact. You can't easily get those things over those roads in the winter. ;)

NY 8 on either side of Speculator between US 9 and NY 365... now THAT is the middle of nowhere.

You are bringing back memories for me Doc. My brother graduated from Paul Smiths and I took that same drive to bring him back and forth to school during the winters of '83 and '84. Slow in the snow but very little police presence! Had a vacation in Blue Mountain lake about 5 years ago. Lots of interesting history there with Edison and the robber barons!

You obviously didn't spend much time on NY 30, or times have changed. Nowadays they crawl ALL OVER that road.

As someone who got nabbed south of Tupper Lake late one Saturday night (on the way home from a game at SLU), I can attest to this.
