I wouldn't worry about it. He "doesn't have a horse in this race," just felt the urge to come by twice and do a meaningless drive-by just because the poor widdle guy got decked by a guy bigger than him.

Did the "poor widdle guy" at least have his head up (unlike one of his Ivy brethren)? ;) I don't remember the hit.

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Part IV: We ain't Bailen on this season yet, Go Red!!

I do remember that an RPI player delivered a check from behind that sent a Dartmouth player crashing into the boards, and I do remember Dave Schrader and Ken Hodge commenting that the RPI player was lucky not to get a major penalty, though I certainly don't remember their making any comment about the height of the Dartmouth player.

I'm fairly certain that I also remember a Dartmouth player delivering a similar check later in the game that sent an RPI player crashing into the boards.

I don't see one bad hit from an RPI player as an indication that Seth Appert teaches his players to play dirty, any more than I see one bad hit from a Dartmouth player as an indication that Bob Gaudet teaches his players to play that way.

I also don't think the size of the player being checked should warrant any additional consideration. If you're a little guy and you want to play hockey with the big boys, you have to understand that sometimes those big boys are going to hit you. Sometimes those hits are going to be legal and sometimes they aren't - the same as if the big boy hit another big boy.

As usual, he said all the right things. Now he has to get them to play 60 minutes.
That third period was played like they had forgotten how they got there. This team can't sit back and let any team come to them. If they have a team on the ropes like they had AIC, they have to close them out.
Union will kill us if we are in that position on Saturday night. Keep on pushin'

RHam (or mackek), did your RPI-TV crew cover the game alongside NBC? If so, do you have permission to post from your source? There aren't any hockey videos up beyond Union 11/15 (although the number of home games since then would explain).

We covered Harvard and AIC; those games will be up tomorrow most likely.

For those who don't read Union's thread, an article about the possibilty of an outdoor game between RPI and Union http://www.timesunion.com/sports/article/We-should-swerve-this-dish-cold-2476426.php.

Even for a basketball town, it's doable (look at Crunch vs. Amerks at the State Fairgrounds), but I fear outdoor games are becoming so mainstream and routine now that it wouldn't be as special.

But i doubt that RPI and Union expect a national audience. They probably could get a lot of people from the CD to attend who do not normally attend either team's games.

In my recent tradition of keeping my posts sweet and simple: I think the outdoor game is a great idea, in terms of attracting a large/new audience, generating revenue and interest in the sport and the two schools, and come on, it would just plain be a lot of fun!

I feel I have to say something. I Miss Babo-Come Back Soon!!!

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Part IV: We ain't Bailen on this season yet, Go Red!!

This topic came up in one of last year's threads. I would assume the reasoning hasn't changed.

For those of us who weren't around when the topic came up last year, what would be so bad about having an outdoor game? I feel like it would be fun and it wouldn't be difficult to draw a crowd. The only problem I can think of is ice quality.

I am one who normally doesn't like gimmicks, but I think that it is worth doing once because it might attract new fans.

I also wouldn't want to do this if it was a 4th game with Union. IMO, three is enough.

How about either an exhibition with RPI and Union all-stars vs someone else (blah idea probably) or even better a double-header in which Union and RPI are co-hosts and play two other teams?

I'd rather bring back the RPI Invitational Tournament in some fashion-if they want to have it outdoors that would be fine.
