Re: RPI 2010 Recruit Thread: Give Me Laliberté or Give Me Death!

On Saturday, the Olds Grizzlys beat the Brooks Bandits 5-3. Matt Tinordi scored two goals and had hooking and tripping penalties. http://www.ajhl.ab.ca/leagues/hockey_boxScores.cfm?clientID=1705&leagueID=3464&gameID=714093

Tinordi's line is now 27-8-10-18-32.

Some more scoring coming from Matt this year-he may turn out to be a rather pleasant surprise next year:)

I checked the status of the game during the first intermission or shortly after. I thought that Tinordi had a chance to be Olds' Player of the Game, which I think would have been his first. Still thought he had a chance later.

Re: RPI 2010 Recruit Thread: Give Me Laliberté or Give Me Death!

If we have only 2 defensive recruits for next year-does that leave us one short? I thought we lost 3 at the end of this year. Or will one of the forwards be switched to defense?

Yes, it does leave us at seven, one fewer than we usually carry. That's way I wondered if Greg Burgdoerfer can play defense. We still could be looking for another, of course.

If he can hit from behind-he can play defense:rolleyes:

Always possible I suppose. I guess the only way to get a read on Appert's plans is to check out a practice to see where Greg is skating. I would think that if he'll be expected to play the blue line next fall, Seth would have him learning the systems now.

I agree that if he were going to play d next year, he would be practicing there now.

I know that when I was in my last couple of years I often watched practices. Has anyone watched one this year? Are they even open?

LEAGUE HEARING SCHEDULED WEDNESDAY FOR THE BLUNDEN-LALIBERTÉ INCIDENT
November 24th, 2009

The recent Blunden-Laliberté incident which made noise around the league, will finally have closure Wednesday evening. Representatives from both the Hawks and Gloucester Rangers will meet behind closed doors with league officials. Stephen Blunden will also be present at the hearing. Two weeks ago, the Hawks had appealed the league's decision to not sanction Blunden's hit from behind on Yanik Laliberté. Laliberté suffered a severe concussion on the play and is still out of the line-up indefinitely. The result of the hearing should be announced Thursday.

Watched the clip of that hit several times-I sure hope the Laliberte kid is OK. His head took quite a whack. Not clear if he lost conscious ness or for how long but it seemed like a devastating hit.

If, as it sounds Yanik will not be there, I have to think that some form of punishment will be handed down to the thug. If they are just fact finding, you'd have to think YL would be there to give his side.

Re: RPI 2010 Recruit Thread: Give Me Laliberté or Give Me Death!

The topic of concussions made me think...did anyone else see that the entire Harvard team is wearing new one piece helmets created by Cascade & Mark Messier? Pretty interesting. I'd like to get a look at one up close.

The only mistake they seem to have made was not approaching an engineering schools about wearing them?? Then again, perhaps they're not quite ready for that level of scrutiny.... Let the Crimson kids get bashed around in them first. Why does a TV commercial featuring two "guys" named Vince & Larry come to mind? :D

In any event here's a link if folks missed it: http://www.gocrimson.com/sports/mice/2009-10/releases/20090922_messier

Re: RPI 2010 Recruit Thread: Give Me Laliberté or Give Me Death!

I'm disappointed that I haven't seen (or don't remember) any discussions on Higgs bosons yet in this thread, but I'm pretty sure it's just a "that should have been way too predictable given this set" disappointment and not an actual desire to see said discussion.

Perhaps none of us are particle physicists. :)
