RPI 2010-11 Part II: RPI, the Other Team, the Refs -- We're outnumbered 10 to 6.

Not piling on WS. Just sounding this out. It seems that hockey polls would work much like football polls in the sense that it is good to be part of the national discussion early to be part of it late. So if we don't win the league, we have a fall back. Certainly not the expert that Tom is on the subject but gotta believe this is how it works. Have a good one.

Look, I get it. I'm not a numbers guy, but understand others are. I just choose to not focus on endless permutations this early in the season. Its my problem. :D

I suggest we just win out the rest of the games this season and make all of this chatter unnecessary. If we end the season with just 4 losses that would be just fine with me.;)

No one is. That's the point of the matter - and whether or not you go into the tournament with some degree of margin for error. Like I said, if you want to focus on just winning the tournament as your ticket to the dance, I'll see you in March, when the games actually matter. Otherwise, nothing from October to February means anything at all. Obviously, that's not true. It's not a matter of endless permutations, it's a matter of winning hockey games and understanding that only one team in 12 can claim the automatic bid. All things being equal, that's an 8.3% likelihood. There are 11 at-large bids to the NCAA tournament to be distributed among 53 other teams - meaning 20.8%. I'll let you do the rest of the math. Those aren't endless permutations.

Re: RPI 2010-11 Part II: RPI, the Other Team, the Refs -- We're outnumbered 10 to 6.

The idea is that playing well enough now makes it so a fluke loss in a single-elimination conference tournament doesn't decide whether we make the dance. Imagine York eats some tainted $3.99 dinner buffet special in AC the night before the championship game and ends up hugging the porcelain throne instead of the goalpost. Oops, now we lost and we're out of the tourney because we didn't play well enough during the regular season to get in on an at-large bid.

ROTFL...you painted this picture and it comes out sounding exactly like the commercial for Allstate with my hero, "Mayhem"...:)

I like the way you think.

That didn't even cross my mind - but now that you mention it, it fits quite well!

Yale gets the number one rating. We were one point from beating Yale with four starters out. I thought Yales power play was strong but five on five we had this team. And with out that 5 on 3 this game easily could have gone either way. I look forward to watching the rematch. I pick RPI to win!

Not gonna happen. You've already thought about this enough for the entire population of this thread...to your credit.

All I'm thinking about is beating BU.

FWIW, we moved from 16th to 15th in the USCHO poll.

One step up the very steep ladder is still a step up...to paraphrase FD08, I have faith in Seth Appert...

Or, to just entirely quote it:

I hesitate to post this, but it does involve rankings and mentions RPI. Schott's so-called Week 9 ECAC recap blogumn, he states that because Y blanked Union, Y is a shoo in for a FF spot. Have fun with that gem y'all. :D

Barely mentions RPI having shellaced Brown 6-2 on Saturday.

I love it. The guy does more for coverage of college hockey and specifically the ECAC and even more specifically Union College, in this area, yet the hockey "experts" from the CD can do nothing but complain because he doesn't write about ior share the same opinions as some of you. Maybe you should not buy The Gazette or read his blog and instead read the 20 articles a week the local media prints about Siena basketball. We are lucky we have a writer in this area that covers college hockey like Ken does. And for whoever complained that Ken did not cover the RPI/Brown game, do you really think that was his decision? Call or email The Gazette if you think they should have spent the money to cover it. Also as long as I am venting, the Holiday Tournament is in danger and that is not speculation, that is fact. It is losing money, can't find a corporate sponsor and cannot get quality teams to commit. What have you heard about next years opponenets? Nothing yet. Not saying it is a done deal but won't be suprised if its on the way out or moved back to December in 2012-13. By the way, lets have more talk on how exciting this team is going to be when they are healthy, with a pile of home ECAC games after the new year!

I am a season ticket holder and the start time on my ticket for Sat. says 7pm. 3:30 right?

3:30 it is. Televised now on NHL Network.
