Thanks for the run down Freddy. RPI is a team that historically speaking, bas been very adept at taking ill-timed penalties. Hope springs eternal that can change their ways. With the addition of Pirri & D'Amigo and the return of Bergin on the point, the RPI PP has the makings for a good one.The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) Panthers are out of Charlottetown, PEI ... Anne of Green Gables and lobster country.
They are one of the more undisciplined teams in the AUS (Atlantic University Sport) conference and do take their share of penalties. Historically they have played with a bit of an edge, and in a preseason exhibition game this year there was fight at the end of the match with one of their AUS rivals that saw fighting majors handed out to the two combatants ... so they're not all shrinking violets!
Checking from behind calls in the AUS can be chintzy ... if the victim has his back squarely to the hitter along the boards then it is just about always called, even if it is a soft hit. The discretion is whether it is a two-minute minor or five-minute major. An automatic game misconduct is tagged on, no matter whether the original call is a minor or major.
Back to UPEI. They always seem to be a dark horse in the AUS. They bring in some good recruits, they start to run with the big guns, and then the wheels start to come off in the second half. Sometimes it is injuries, sometimes it is who knows what? They usually play a spirited game, so you should find it entertaining.
As a CIS team, they will be older, bigger and slower than the typical NCAA team. They wear visors, not full-face protection.
InCH rated us 37th of the 58 D-I schools (8th in the ECAC) http://www.insidecollegehockey.com/5Polls/0910/great58_0801.htm
Good point, I also thought it would be more than ten. This same poll put Union - which last time I checked has no clear cut starting goalie - ten spots ahead of us at 27...Suuuuurrrre.

We’ve touted Rensselaer’s recruiting classes for three years in a row. Talent is no longer the problem in Troy.

I am assuming that Vines will eventually be hired.
This is based upon 3 October for the start of next season.

Jerry D’Amigo, F, Rensselaer – The Engineers suffered through a dreadful 2008-09 season under third-year head coach Seth Appert. The arrival of D’Amigo, though, from the U.S. NTDP will bolster an offense that scored 56 fewer goals than its opponents last season. D’Amigo scored 56 points in 53 games with USA Hockey and was selected by Toronto in the sixth round of the NHL Draft this year. D’Amigo’s presence roaming the wing for the Engineers is another reason why the ECAC just might be the most competitive conference in the nation this season.
Time to star getting it done! Let's Go Red

College Hockey News "Instant Impacts" http://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2009/10/01_newseason.php:
Anyone else think that it is weird that they would pick a sixth round draft pick over a second rounder that had twice as many points?
I know that I am just happy to have both of them.![]()
For the RPI football fans-RPI was defeated today by Rochester 16-10 as we just had no offense without our first string quarterback who sat out the game with a knee injury. RPI is now 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Liberty League. I believe they have a week off next week and then travel to Pennsylvania to visit Susquehanna.
Football lost? Guess the hockey team has a chance this year.
Only 3 more hours, me can't wait...
And, hold on to your helmets folks, Union is the highest ranked D-III school in the poll. This same poll put Union - which last time I checked has no clear cut starting goalie - ten spots ahead of us at 27...Suuuuurrrre.
