RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Dumb penalities usually happen because players get lazy.
It is easier to clutch, hold, hook, or trip than it is to move your feet.

I could have sworn reading the other day Nate Leaman saying dumb penalties often occur because players are tired...saying something to the effect that the mind is the first to go. Baah, what does he know anyway.

In any event, I'll take Appert's views on it over yours, if its all the same to you...

"...we played a good third period. They didn't have many looks. But we had two absolutely inexcusable plays at the end of the game."

Two mistakes - however costly - does not equate to taking an opponent "lightly". Quite the opposite is often true, players start gripping the stick tightly in close games because they are intent on not making a mistake that they end playing tight, causing turnovers. Aww heck why do I bother, I'm sure you'll keep beating on your long-dead theory just the same...

T-U hockey blog reporting York might be out for this weekend. Having trouble putting link to it up sorry.
Well this could be interesting or it could be Merriams breakout weekend. Either way the offense and defense will need to step up and help him out both nights. Hopefully this is just a minor issue for York and not a lingering thing.

It's all good. It's nothing we hadn't already heard and, as previously mentioned, if the TU reported that RPI won an NCAA title in 1985, I'd want to see someone else say it before I believed it.

I'm not concerned. If I had a choice it would be York but Merriam's capable.

If it's a link to something in the Times Useless, don't even bother with a link to it.

Not all that surprising given the obvious importance of the ankle in side to side movement... He's got five days to stay off it and get treatment for it...who knows, maybe he'll try Linsay Vonn's cheese therapy. :D

Times Union blog said:
Appert said York turned his right ankle while there was a scramble in front of the RPI net early in the second period Saturday.

Funny, since he left in the first. This error is the same thing that the T-U was reporting yesterday, too.

I'm glad that Merriam has seen game action already this season and I hope that he sees some good shots this week during practice.

Of course I hope it isnt serious and he is back this week-one consolation, it is an ankle and not a knee. With an ankle injury (if it isnt a complete tear of some sort) he may be back far more quickly than if it was a knee. I can't imagine a goalie trying to play with even the slightest knee discomfort. The way they have to move, I would imagine it would just not be possible.

Congrats to CP for being names ECAC POTW. Query: Can he win the Hobey without RPI making noise in the post-season?

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

In the rankings, RPI has 7 votes, which surprises me a little given we went .500 this week. Perhaps the hat trick saved us a little?

He'll need to finish this season real strong. The team will probably need to get to Albany though for him to have any shot at it. If by some chance he scores 30+ goals and leads the country-it would make a strong case.

The team has to win the ECAC title for him to have a chance. There are players on better teams with less numbers than Polacek that have all of the attention - I'm thinking Rakhshani of Denver and Geoffrion of Wisconsin. Polacek plays for freakin' RPI. That's a strike against him.

Just look at Eric Ehn a few years ago. He should have been the shoo-in, but, oh, too bad, he played for Air Force.

True, It even always seems like the Hobey Baker winner's team is playing at the Frozen 4, so I guess we just have to get to Detroit for the 25 year anniversary, and so Chase can accept the award. ;)

Unfortunately that probably is the case. I just felt if we got to Albany and lost he might have had enough games to pile up some stats. But as you indicate, he may be just playing for the wrong team to ge the notice nationally.:(

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Heh. I got some negative rep from a UND fan who is losing his grip on reality over my assertion that Eric Ehn should have won the Hobey Baker over a guy who wasn't even the best player on his line, let alone his team, his conference, or the nation.

Let's be real. It's an honor for Chase to be so heavily mentioned as a Hobey Baker nominee. He's probably going to be a shoo-in for the Top 10. But unless RPI wins the ECAC and goes to the national tournament (with Chase continuing to play a major role in the team's success), there's no way he'll win it short of opening a wide gap in his national scoring lead.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

What Chase is really doing here is just kinda putting his name out there for next seasons Hobey Baker Award..Oh wait thats college football where the best players are force fed down your throat at week 1 not giving anyone who might have a good season a chance at winning the award.

But in reality, if Chase cracks top 10 of the Hobey List this year and then comes back next year with an even bigger season and the Engineers make some noise nationally I dont see why he wouldnt have a shot at winning the award. Who knows maybe next season RPI will have more than 1 horse in the race. However the only looking ahead Im going to do for now is at Friday and Quinnipiac in what will be an important game in the standings.
