RPI 06-07..."Houston, we have a problem"

Was able to catch some of the Minnesota Mankato game today and we played well enough to keep this one competitive for 1-2 periods but they just have a little too much for us and we seemed to wear down late. Going to be a long year and hope we can slowly mesh together and be more cohesive but it was entertaining for the most part

Didnt see either of these games but it looks like we were reasonably competitive against a WCHA team? The game against Northeastern will be a bigger test. I am just so happy that we have a challenging schedule to get ready for ECAC play.

Our ladies have not really been out of any of their first 4 games until later in each game. Today for example they actually led 2-0 early, fell behind 3-2 in the third and came back to tie. only to give up a later goal and an empty netter to end it. honestly before the season started i had virtually no expectations for this year but they have already showed me a lot. i remain convinced what needs to change starts from the top down. But as we have seen for several seasons at least the girls come out there to compete.

Went to see the women play today. They were massively outshot. But they kept Northeastern off the scoreboard, based on an amazing performance from Sadie Bellissimo.

I have to say the women were impressive. Never giving up, skating fast and hard from start to finish, and playing as a team. I very much look forward to watching them play no matter what their record is.

Sounds like a barn burner performance from Bellissimo. Speaking of barns, why was the game played in Schenectady? Are the Houston Field House renos not complete?

Why would any strong team waste their time and money playing RPI when they already know what the outcome will be before they even step on the ice, and it does nothing for their rankings. In fact, playing RPI would hurt them in the rankings.
Apparently Shelfit knew what the outcome of the Northeastern vs RPI game would be....but I guess he forgot to tell the players.

The celebration by the players after the winning OT goal said it all - these ladies are having a good time as a team and I can only hope they get to surprise a bunch of other top teams. They have 2 games coming up this next weekend and are actually a 1/2 goal FAVORITE in them for a really nice change!!!!

Yes, good chance to take two against Robert Morris, but nothing is easy. And then we have two games against Maine which will be competitive. As I have said before, it is so refreshing that we have lined up a tough pre-conference schedule. This is looking like a good start to the season because we are aiming higher.

It's great that they won a game that they were not supposed to, but let's be real here; the shots were 42-14, so it's not like this was any sort of a balanced contest. One of the Northeastern players alone had 11 shots, so almost the same as RPI as a team. Their 1-4-0 record is another indicator of their destiny. RPI can thank their goalie for a bellissimo performance that basically stole what was a VERY lopsided game. She deserves all the credit for giving her team the opportunity to pull off the big upset win. Congrats to her!

Watched both games this weekend. The women seemed less of everything compared to the Northeastern game: less speed, less playing together as a team. The question I have is , and she was in the stands with other non dressed players, where is Kendall Davidson? She brings so much to the team: size, physicality, speed, offense. RMU knew they could easily slow down RPI with an aggressive forecheck and it worked.

There are many strong 08 players and none of them went to RPI. It is a tier 2 division 1 team. Goalie however played great! There are very few goalie opportunities on top teams so that is where the bottom D1 teams will thrive and we have seen it already this year!

Davidson is the key to the rest of the season. Without her presence on defense, teams just skate right into the zone and clog the areas in front of the net. hope to see her back on the ice soon.

As a long time supporter of RPI women's hockey I always try to find the light at the end of the tunnel. But if the coaches really had this team prepared for this tough road trip how could they be outscored 3-0 and outshot 20-1 in the first period? The second and third periods were not much better, but really not relevant, this team lost the game the moment they stepped on the ice. Even in mediocre years the Engineers found a way to be competitive with top teams. Except for an outstanding event like Bellisimo's domination of Northeastern, the Engineers do not seem to be able to compete with top teams now.

On the NPI index, RPI is now rated 43 out of 45 D1 teams, a shocking place for an ECAC team! Only St Anselm and St. Michaels, the two bottom dwellers of the NEWHA are ranked lower. Can things get any worse than this? The administration has two choices to avoid further embarrasment: 1) provide real support to recruit and coach a more competitive team, or 2) go back to D3. I would hope for option 1, but the status quo is painful.
