Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

I'm pretty sure they missed the Saturday morning meeting before the game according to what I heard on the SportsZone broadcast, so any class/test excuses would be irrelevant.

What I heard from a parent is that an additional meeting was called after Friday's game for Saturday and 4 or 5 freshmen somehow missed the announcement so they were set to be at the rink at a certain time and were not aware they were supposed to be there earlier. If that's what happened, hard to say this is grounds for missing a game. I mean if one kid missed the announcement then he should bear the blame but 4 or 5? And they were all freshmen so not like they could have known what the routine was from previous years. If 5 players miss an announcement maybe you should look at how this information is being communicated - 5 players represents more than 20% of your line-up!

Not to mention that the freshmen all live together in sets of 4, which is why it makes sense for a group of them to miss it. Regardless this easily could have lost us the game (we will never know) and we know we always start off the season weak. It would a great boost to both the team and the ticket sales if they had come away with 4 points. This seems like too much of an overreaction. Thankfully it was out of conference

I have zero problem of Wilson sitting some players for, based upon the knowledge we have, being late to a team meeting. The team in the past couple of seasons has had internal issues and from what I hear, said issues have moved on to other phases in their lives. One of the last things this team needs is to let some freshman (or any other players) off easy for being late to a team meeting. That sends the wrong message of F up and there are no consequences. I would rather have players sit now and nip these kind of things (lack of focus) in the butt then to be lenient and have it get worse when conference play is in full swing. And the excuses that 4 of them missed a meeting so somehow that makes it OK is weak. The other 22-23 players managed to get there on time.

Quick question: Would RIT be a shoe in for the ECAC? Would they want us?

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

I would think it's likely to expect a BC band this weekend. BC brings a band to Cornell so I would think they bring one everywhere but maybe not.

I don't think BC has played at Cornell in 15 years or more. At least not since 1997 off the top of my head when I started as a student at BC.

I would not expect the BC band to make the trip but I guess anything is possible. They usually don't travel to many away games, usually just neutral games like NCAAs, HE tourney, Beanpot.

Have no idea about RIT but after having seen BC twice already I will say this is a winnable game for RIT.

If you talk to someone from the ECAC, they're going to say no from a travel pair perspective alone. Additionally, there are currently no openings in the conference thanks to Uconn moving over to Hockey East.

From an RIT perspective, the ECAC is exactly where we'd like to be. Plenty of other non-scholarship/academic focused programs in the conference. We'd also benefit recruits and attendance wise from playing against stronger/frozen four winning/ncaa tournament dominating teams.

Mmmmm, maybe if the Iveys split off into their own conference? Other than that, all I can think of is a school switching to B10 in all their sports or dropping hockey all together (unlikely).

My mistake I was thinking BU.

There was an article in the Buffalo News last week about conference affiliations (of course from Buffalo it has Canisius/Niagara perspective) but still interesting to see other possibilities: http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/n...ffiliations-remain-subject-to-change-20141005

With RIT's lack of scholarships, I don't see them moving to a Great Lakes type of conference. That would put the Tigers at a severe disadvantage there.

Based on the "knowledge we have", there is some confusion between players being late and players not knowing about the meeting in the first place. And I didn't say that because it was 4 of them means it's ok. I said that having 4-5 miss it lends some credibility to the notion that it wasn't a lack of focus but a communication problem. And seeing that one of the reasons stated for suspending the players was that it happened last year also lends credibility to the theory that maybe the team needs to look at how this information is communicated to avoid a recurrence. Because as it stands, the players rightly or wrongly, paid the price. And I think the team did too as our D was not as mobile and our forwards tired at the end of the game and maybe the outcome is different if the players got a warning and played.

Regardless, it's over and done with. Minus injuries, all healthy players are available this coming weekend and hopefully we see the same grit and determination at Homecoming that we've seen for the first 3 games.

Speaking of which, does anyone know about the possibility of RIT becoming a scholarship school? I heard or read something last season about the school applying (if that's what they do) for the right to offer scholarships and that the matter hinged on getting support from the needing support from the rest of the teams in the conference.

Cool article. I can shed some perspective on the ASU scenario a bit as a former Tempe resident/beer leaguer.

ASU won the D1 club national championship last year and managed to win a game against PSU's NCAA team during their first season, so the question naturally came up of whether or not they'd like to move to varsity. Their athletic VP said that it's an idea they've tossed around. To be honest, ASU already has some form of coaching and recruiting staff for all three of their club teams at D1-3 (that's right, their D1 club team recruits players). They could also potentially move into the NCHC or WCHA with spots being open. Finally, there's a big rivalry between UofA and ASU in hockey, so perhaps one team moving up will prompt the other to do the same.

Outside of the positive hypotheticals, there's some harsh realities of hockey in the desert. I'm sure conferences aren't eager to schedule two trips down to Phoenix and Tuscon, especially Western Mich and Miami in the NCHC. Perhaps the WCHA would be accommodating, but they're already traveling to Alaska. Additionally, ASU doesn't currently have a facility as they're playing in a rinky dink ~500 seater facility. I played here and I can tell you that no respectable NCAA team would show up to a game at this facility. Besides the cash ASU would need for a rink, they'd have to find scholarships somewhere or start up a women's hockey team as well (again, conference issues). Finally, hockey in the desert hasn't had a big draw. Perhaps being located in Tempe would help compared to the 'yotes in Glendale, but that's all speculative.

Iv'e been told we would have to go D1 as a school to get scholarships which i was told requires at least 3 D1 teams. I have been going of off this for a while hoping men's lacrosse makes the jump. But not entirely sure how accurate it is.

I was under the impression that to be a D1 school, all teams would have to make the jump. Pretty sure the NCAA doesn't want any other teams playing up, and RIT had to appeal to the NCAA for the women's hockey team to go D1.

I also heard rumors of RIT appealing to the NCAA to allow scholarships for hockey, but I am not sure of the truth to that or if it went anywhere.

I know this is more outside of our control than appealing to the NCAA, but I'd rather see RIT jump conferences than us get scholarships.
