Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

You're a fool to think that those weren't defensive lapses. I'm glad my posts annoy you, complacency on this forum and the athletic department has let us fall to .500 in the worst conference in the country, and I'm going to complain until we're not mediocre of the worst.

I don't think it's complacent to be happy about a sweep. We won, we and we didn't get lucky...we earned both of those wins in two very different games. It's ridiculous to comb through every second of the game to try and find the moments that weren't great, ignoring all those that were.

I hate to have to keep going back to this well, but there is no team ever that has consistently played full, 60-minute games with no mistakes. Yes, RIT made some mistakes. But 1st place Mercyhurst also makes mistakes. So does Bentley. So did UMASS when they lost to AIC. Just because a team makes a mistake or two does not mean they are unqualified for championship hockey. It's how you respond to those mistakes (and how many you force the opponent to make) that determine that.

If RIT puts such a bad team on the ice and have personally disappointed you, maybe you should make a thread for the Arizona club team and post there instead.

It's our fault, everyone.

RIT needs to dig really deep next weekend. RIT can beat Niagara if they play with a lot of heart. They will have to be on their A game. RIT it will all come down to who wants it more.

The only chance RIT has to get into that 4th slot is to get points from Mercyhurst, Niagara and Air Force.

Brilliant ...because whining is how you get things done! We and the team are so lucky to have you.

The coaching staff doesn't seem complacent. They brought in a large freshman class. They are the most worked up I have ever seem them during the games and doing more "coaching" during the games with individual players. Wilson seems to be a little more open in the post game interviews; flat out saying Ruby was giving up soft goals, this person isn't working etc.

I think Skirving just keeps getting better and will be a large cog in the offense in coming years. Josh Mitchell's has looked more involved too. Might be some question marks on D going forward though as Brownell is the only senior next year, and many of the freshman D aren't getting a lot of ice time this year

I'm happy about the sweep, not happy with how easily our defense fell apart. I'm not combing through anything. I sit here at my computer and watch the live stream, it's pretty easy to post frustrations on the moment.

It gets as much done as someone sitting here, chalking up the season to inconsistency. I'd much rather be critical than optimistic of this program, since it's fallen off quite a bit. While I'm not throwing tons of money at the hockey program, I do listen or watch faithfully every weekend, spend significant money to travel to Rochester to watch a game or two, and catch games here down in CO Springs. Seems like I put in more effort than most of the current student body to support this team.

Brilliant ...because whining is how you get things done! We and the team are so lucky to have you.

Reality is that what we say on a message board has little or no impact on what is going on with the team.

I thought the team played pretty well. There is room for improvement, to be sure. There were enough bad giveaways and Army played a much better game on Saturday, getting a ton of shots. But at the same time, there were a lot of good things to take out of the weekend. As it was stated, they stoned Army's power play all weekend - which was really significant in Friday's win when the Tigers could not stay out of the box in the second period. Ruby played well. Some top line scorers got on the board. There were even some goals from the defencemen - which I think is really lacking.

Bottom line is they got 4 points out of a weekend a lot of us thought were a must. They sit 4 points out of a first round bye. They have a lot of home games coming up. Make hay in those home games (4-1 in true home games in conference play) and I they will be right back in the thick of the race at least for the bye.

Yep, not to mention that after next weekend we enjoy several consecutive weekends at home and the students will be back on campus. RIT is in a good position now if they can hold court and take the majority of these home games.

My thoughts on this weekend....First and foremost the team got 4 points that they absolutely had to have. They looked very good on Friday and decent on Saturday against a weak Army team. I think Friday night's performance would have the being competitive against any AHA team but Saturday's performance would have them in trouble against the best. Saturday's game was for sure not "easy" as some here have predicted. ;) The offense played well and the D was improved over last weekend. I thought Ruby was OK and was basically exactly what we should expect out of him (makes good saves and lets up a softy).

It's a good start to a lot of home game stretch. If they can replicate Friday's play then I am hopeful of some positive results. My only concern is that Army is so bad that they made RIT look better than they were this weekend.

For any of the historians...when was the last time RIT played in consecutive games that a penalty shot was awarded? I can't remember it happening but my memory sucks as I get old(er) and it only goes back to the early '90's.

I'm going to bet that this is the first time this has happened in our D1 history... and maybe even since the beginning of our varsity in 1965 :) ... just guessing though.

I think we can all agree that RIT has won the games we would of expected them to win - RMU, AIC, SHU, and Army. The meat of the schedule now begins and with a bunch of games at home you have to like our chances to move up in the standings. The pessimist in me says we should be concerned that we have not beaten a team that is ahead of us in the standings yet I think the team will play better during the final stretch of the regular season. Next weekend will be big for this years Tigers.

Yes, last I heard he had concussion issues again.

On the plus side, some of the freshmen have been playing well in his roster spot while he's out.

On another note, I think I'd be happy with Hamburg continuing to be a healthy scratch. I know he was in the game on Saturday, but he might as well have been a ghost because he never showed up. For RIT's first NHL draft pick, this guy's career here has been a complete disappointment.

Being a 7th round pick doesn't carry that much weight... I know its a novelty for RIT but I wasn't expecting Zach Parise out there :)

I don't get what's up with him, clearly someone saw some good in him. He must have had similar issues at Colgate which has gotten him less and less ice time.

A 7th round pick is still better than undrafted, which is what all his predecessors were. Considering some of the talent we've had (Tanev, Ringwald, Pinner, Burt, Brenner) that went undrafted, I expected more than a 4th line ghost out of our first ever pick is all.

I think this is one example of a situation that goes a long way to explaining our struggles over the past few seasons. By that I mean, players that look great on paper, but on the ice they don't live up to their billing. You'd think Hamburg would be a key part of our offense and a leader on our number one (or at least our number two) line. Yet instead, he's by and large a non-factor on this team. Ruby is another one that was considered a really good recruit coming in here, probably the highest rated goalie recruit we've ever had. Though here he is half way through his Junior season and we're still looking for him to reach what we thought was his potential.

For us to succeed we need players to at least reach their potential. For us to really thrive, we need players(several of them) to exceed their potential. I haven't seen much in the way of that in a few seasons.

Since we are in the middle of the week, and I may have missed it, but does anyone know how the schedule will be done with 11 teams for next year? Will there be travel partners for most teams and everybody playing each other twice with the balance of the schedule being non-conference games or will they stick with some type of modified East and West POD system?
